Any cat owners out there that wake baby up?

We are literally at breaking point 😅 we have a cat, he never bothered us when we bought baby home cos he was scared of him but now he isn't so he will meow at 4/5am every morning and wakes us all up. Simple solution is to lock him out right? But he is able to open doors 😅 we have 2 options really, shut him in a room and baracade the door handle so he can't open it or put bubba in his own room as the cat only wants our attention (but bubba has only turned 5 months) need advice from people who own cats and have been through a similar situation?

Yes we shut our cat downstairs overnight and block the doors so he can't shove them open!! Otherwise we get same as you - he comes into the hall at 5am and sits and meows lol

My cat is the exact same 😂 I ended up buying a lock to put on the door so my cat is stuck downstairs at night 😅

No but we have a very reactive dog since weve had baby and now barks at everything 🙈 just as be drifts off to sleep

We lock cats in the kitchen at night, always have done. They’ve got everything they need in there so aren’t bothered.

Set up a timed feeder at 4 and 5 am.

Probably an insane suggestion to get another cat but the only time my cat hasn’t bothered me during the night/early morning is when I’ve had two cats. Because they’re crepuscular (most active at dawn and dusk) I’ve always found having two means that they don’t come looking for me and play & eat together instead. Having said that, cats are so unpredictable there’s no guarantee a new cat would bond well with an existing one!

We have an almost 5 year old house cat and a 21 month old son. She has been like our first child so used to sleep with us every night till we had our son. She absolutely disliked him, meowed her lungs out whenever I would feed him and refused to sleep with us as he was in our room. It took almost 3 months but it got better. Now she sleeps on our bed again and tolerates his crying and wailing in the middle of the night much better. It just takes some patience. I used to spend additional time with my cat before going to bed, cuddling her and petting her, playing with her, giving her treats and I think that helped a lot. They just want attention and take time to get used to having a baby around.

Food timer is a game changer!

We have his food on timer for the morning, he just eats it and then comes and meows. Think he wants our attention more than anything 😅 thanks everyone for your advice. We spend time with the cat when baby goes to bed as he goes at 7:30 and we don't go up to bed till 10ish. Think we will try him in our kitchen diner tonight abd see how that goes

Our cat is the same. We made sure he had everything he needs in the spare room and locked him in there basically! It made me so sad to do. But the only reason we were sleeping badly was the cat wanting to play at 4am 🤣🤣

We have this problem but fortunately we have a lock on the kitchen door so can shut the cat in the downstairs (open plan house ) at night time just make sure they have a little tray they can get to down there x

We have this exact problem. My ginger cat sleeps in baby’s room with door shut (baby is in our room still at 5 months) and cat doesn’t make a peep. Grey cat gets shut in the living room and quite literally bangs on the doors any time she hears a noise, sometimes she gets shut in the utility room but can make just as much noise. We’ve had nights of questioning what the hell to do too and whether to put baby in her own room so that the cats can finally come back in our room but 5 months is too young 🥲

Get a lock for the doors you don't want the cat getting through

We’ve always had the cats in with us even when baby was in our room My sons now 6 months and has been in his own room since 4 months. Found he sleeps loads better, the cats aren’t allowed in his room at night but they’re fine with it as they have our bed 😂
