My boys are 8 months old and we’re currently on day 4 of no dummies. It’s hard at first but I think it was actually harder for me than it was my boys. I had to get my other half to hide them from me so I didn’t give in lol. Only advice would be to start it on a time when you both have no plans for a few days because you’re going to be up during the night…a lot! And make sure baby has a busy day so she’s extra tired. But last night was the easiest night since they were born and didn’t wake at all for 12 hours. Naps during the day are still quite hard but they cry for maybe a minute before settling rather than the 20 minutes it took on Saturday. Good luck 😁
Best times to drop a dummy are 0-6 months or around 18 months the plus. You can of course take it away but during these ages it can be difficult. Be prepared for possibly lots of tears and cuddles to console them x
@Sophie I did try between 3-6 months but she then would suck her thumb and I know that is much harder to stop (talking with experience me and my sister did she managed when she was in her teens and me into my late 20s 🤦🏻♀️) I didn’t want that for her so probably why I left the dummy longer than planned .she came out sucking her thumb 🤦🏻♀️. She wakes up a lot in the night as it is anyway so best of starting now . My first I refused to give a dummy but for some reason second time round I caved in quickly.
@Jen she’s up quite a bit in the night with feeds still so I think I’m best starting now then 🫣 thank you ☺️ x
@Robynne aw I know it is hard. I tried at 5 months and it was too much. I’ve kept mine with a dummy (7 months) and he’s at a point now where once it’s out it’s out and will stay asleep. However he has a cough at the moment so sometimes wake himself up and I just have to go in and pop the dummy back in. I’m just waiting for the day he can do it himself 😅 What about a breathable comforter made out of muslin fabric? I have bunny ones and sometimes he sucks on the ear of it x
I’ve got a 10 month old and I’m on night 2 with no dummy and day one of no dummy, I’ve just had to let her cry it out and be very persistent so she doesn’t have it I’ve given her a bottle instead so when she’s had enough of the bottle she will cry but eventually she’ll give in and go sleep xx
