Planned C-Section

Does anyone know what happens if you go into labour before your booked c-section! I will not be able to withstand a vaginal birth due to medical conditions and I’m so worried! Since when did they only do c-secs from 39 weeks!x

I’m pretty sure if you can’t do a vaginal birth due to medical complications they can still provide a c section, depending on how quickly labour progresses it may be an emergency section rather than elective. I had an emergency c section at 37+4 but I was booked in for elective at 38+2 so I’m not aware of the 39 week rule, I think it may just be an average time frame if there’s no complications, as they’ll move it forward if they need to x

They only book at 39 weeks to allow the baby to fully develop their lungs, hence why some babies may need help after a c section. When you go into labour naturally it triggers the baby to start using their lungs (something to do with fluid in baby’s lungs). Also do not worry if you opt for a c section and go into labour you can still have a c section.

They'll just take you in for an "emergency" c section on the day

I was booked in for an elective section on the 13th but my waters broke on the 2nd so they just brought the section forward on that day, I hadn’t started contractions or anything so just waited for my slot. It was a totally calm and positive experience xx

My friend went into labour two weeks before her planned C-section due to baby being breech and ended up having an emergency one instead!

Hey .. I went into labour at 36 weeks when I had a c section planned .. they simply asked me if I would like a natural birth or a section and I asked for a section xx

They can still do the section it's just classed as an emergency one as there's less prep ti me etc x
