Have you found a place you would want to give birth at
yeah, it’s inside the hospital but apparently if you have a higher bmi than 30, they don’t allow it 💔
So where I am they don’t allow it in birth centre. However my room in the consultant led unit was incredible. I was scared of giving birth 😂 they made the experience feel so at ease. It had light projectors, they had a speaker you could connect your phone to to play whatever music you wanted, they had all different types of equipment you’d use in a birth centre and a big bath you could use during labour, just not to give birth in as they weren’t deemed safe or accessible enough. It was exactly the same as the birth centre they had in the hospital with the exception a consultant is always a room away and you have super quick access to help should it be needed. Take a trip to the CLU and have a walk through and see what they can do to help make it more positive for you! If they don’t have all the facilities you can take in your own lights, speakers, diffusers if you wanted. Also you said the centre is IN the hospital, try to think of your room as if it was on the birth centre ward x
thank you so much jami, in my mind i just see hospital births as like a surgical procedure & all white walls - terrifying. hearing your experience really helped, i’ll definitely ask about all this 🩷 x
They might want you in hospital only. But you’re still entitled to a birth at home or in a birth centre. Look up your rights. Speak to a doula. The NHS have a habit of scaring you and making you feel like you “can’t”.
I had a vbac in the hospital and it was amazing. It’s definitely possible to have a calm birth not in a birth center. I think you just need to know what you’d like. If you want to bring music or lights then do it. Let people know what you want. And try to stick to it. But also be open for emergencies because they can happen
It depends on the centre, at mine if it's your first pregnancy they want a BMI lower than 33 or 35 for second pregnancy lower than 40
Where we are we are told the birthing centre wouldn’t accept us due to bmi so had to be on the ward, however It is in the same hospital and one floor down (so I can’t imagine it was that different we still had fairy lights star machines music etc) and worked out for the best as we needed an emergency c section 🫣
It depends where you live and the birth center rules I think
