Agree with the previous poster, but you know best as mummy! Have you ruled out any red flags for health issues? Then if no potential health issues, what’s sleep schedule like in a 24 hour period, from wake up, nap time and nap length to bedtime. Is there enough sleep pressure at bedtime?
Way too young to sleep train. Also could be teething early.
When we did it, every check in time gradually got longer. Have you looked up the chart for Ferber sleep training? E.g would be 1-2 min, then 3-5, etc.
Go in every 10 min to check. He won’t settle on his own in 1-2 min. That’s too soon !
Hi... baby Sleep Coach here. You can definitely teach your baby to sleep through the night at 4 months old. Going in every 1-2 mins to comfort for 3 seconds will not be effective. I have coached parents and have had thousands of cases of babies successfully sleeping 10-12 hours each night. You're wasting so much time doing what you're doing now. But, it's not your fault you just have not learned the right way. You can do more by going back to the basics. There are things you can say in a certain order to help your baby sleep.
4-5 months olds are not too young to sleep train as long as you are using appropriate methods. Your Sleep Consultant should be advising you on if your results are normal. It can take many days to see results but should get better after 2-3 nights with that age. Some children are more stimulated by the constant check ins and may do better with a method that allows for check ins every 5 minutes like the Sleep Wave.
Sleep training is usually not advised until 6 months at the earliest, even amongst those who support it. It could be that your little one just isn't old enough to self-settle yet.
