Midwives of Mississauga !

I did the OB route last time and wanted to try a midwife today! Wanted to hear other people’s experiences about what it’s like, how many weeks were you when you first saw them, where were the appointments, what happened when you went into labour and what was postpartum like !?

I was 6/7 weeks when I registered. I believe my first appointment wasn’t until I was 12 weeks if I remember correctly. I believe appointments were every 4 weeks at the beginning and closer to the end every 2 weeks, then weekly. The appointments didn’t feel rushed, they let you ask questions. I called them when I started labour and they told me when to call. Once I was ready she met me at the hospital. My delivery was quick so a second midwife didn’t arrive on time. Usually there are 2 at the delivery time. I like that midwives will only care for you and no other patients, where as an OB could be jumping from patient to patient. I was given the option of going home an hr after delivery because I could call the midwives if anything, however I chose to stay. (That is not a choice with an OB). A midwife came home the next day we were released from the hospital and a couple times more after that. Then the appointments were in office and me and baby had to go there.

I had a great experience with MoM. I think my first appointment was at 8weeks. then every few weeks until near the end when it was every week. The appointments were 30 mins and they provided a lot of support. The appointments were at their office by south common. I loved that they have a dedicated line for any emergencies or questions. I had several sinus infections and they would answer the phone and either provide support over the line or come to my home. My labour was challenging because, despite having a team of 3 midwives, I didn’t get any of my midwives but 1 from a dif team. My MF was at a previous birth that lasted over 24 hours and my midwife was just exhausted. The post partum care was great. I loved that I didn’t need to leave the house after my baby was born for the first 4 weeks. They came to me. Overall I loved the experience and would do it again if I could. The only thing is they book up quickly so you will need to call right away if you are pregnant and what them

They discharge at 6 weeks. I love that they come to your house and you are supported until baby is 6 weeks. If you have questions or you are concerned you can call them 24/7 not have to go to a hospital. Every procedure/ test they make it like it’s your choice. Nothing is forced on you. I hope I never have to go with an OB I loved having a midwife.

Midwives of Mississauga were amazing! Excellent care through the whole process. I was with them for two pregnancies - the first one ended early because there were some genetic issues and the same team took me on for continuity of care for the 2nd. I think the first visit was around 10 weeks and the rest are at regular times that your OB would normally see you except they give lots of extra time for questions and covering your plans for labour etc. It’s so nice to have someone to call of any issues come up and aftercare is super helpful. I gave birth in a hospital but they were so supportive in all of my requests (whirlpool tub, low lighting, calm environment, music, no wires/ivs). If you haven’t already been accepted as a patient make sure to apply asap because spaces are limited. Appointments are at their clinic but aftercare for the first couple of days is at your home. So nice to have consistent care with a team that knows you and your baby for the weeks after your labour.

I loved them so much!! As others have commented, you go to their office for prenatal appointments. I had such personalized care. They even knew everything about my fiancé!! They asked him personal questions about work and his life. They are so personable. I had a home birth and I ended up having my team as well as another team because of their shift change but my team didn’t even leave. So they stayed past their shift! They were amazing all through postnatal appointments and super helpful with breastfeeding and my recovery. They even helped my fiancé with supporting my emotional recovery too. I have nothing but great memories. Do yourself a favour and apply with them!!!
