Feel so defeated right now with Cmpa

Sorry this is such a pitty party rant but I don’t think anyone gets how stressful it can be to have a baby who has allergies and eczema right from the get go. Our baby turned six months old and is sitting nicely so I thought brilliant, I can try her with some food. Well within five days she’s covered in a rash, screaming and is now even refusing bottles. I’m dreading if it’s another food allergy. I tried her with carrot and then sweet potato, that’s all. I feel so defeated 😔 LIKE WHAT NOW! There’s always something it feels like since I’ve given birth. My mental health is totally on the floor and I don’t think we’ve had one good week where our baby was actually comfortable in her little body which kills me. Has anyone else had a difficult start to weaning? I’d love so tip and advice, I feel like I ready all the books but I just want to hear from real mums who get it.

I feel the same since weaning. Thought I’d got her allergies under control by eliminating dairy and soy from my diet, now since weaning she’s having reactions to loads of things and her skin is so bad. Waiting to get referred to a paediatrician so we can do a test and find out what else she’s allergic to but feels like it’s going to be lots of things and it’s so stressful!x

@Becky sorry to be the bearer of bad news but if it's a non-ige allergy which most are then there isn't any tests to do. X

Oh really? That’s going to be so hard cause I can’t work out what she’s reacting to, it seems like most things but also could be delayed reactions. I thought they could do skin prick/blood tests?x

Only for ige reactions (breathing problems, hives etc) if it's eczema, bowel problems etc it's non-ige and a case of keeping a food diary and process of elimination. It took us until age 18 months to pinpoint our daughters and re-inteoduce everything. It was eventually dairy and oats (we had cut all allergens and introduced one at a time in-between teething illnesses etc) our other allergy child is dairy and soya free. It's so hard initially but it's easy now we know what's what. X

Ahh ok makes sense - the thing is the things she’s reacting to aren’t obvious allergens, but either way will be a similar process I guess x

@Becky yeah, we used huckleberry to keep a log of what she was eating. My friends son is allergic to citrus fruits, and a friend is allergic to Bananas, kiwi and latex. They can be so random x

@Becky what's she reacting to?

I know the feeling my son started having seizures from cmpa at 10 days old then we got that under control to then find out he's severely coeliac

So sorry to hear you’re going through this too - we had exactly the same with my son. It’s absolutely horrendous and no one can understand the stress, anxiety and heartbreak unless they’ve been through it. The mental load is unreal. It does get easier though I promise - my son is now 2 and we know what his (many 😅) allergies are and we can manage them really well. He rarely has reactions now. I have an insta page where I’ve documented our whole journey with weaning etc if you’re interested. Sending love and strength and my top recommendation would be to tap into community and find solidarity/support. There’s loads of good FB groups!

@YazmynJade obviously reactions after peas and rice and a few others, but her skin seems to react on days when I’ve given her things like potato and broccoli so I don’t know if these are delayed reactions from something else or maybe just having wet food around her face is aggregating her eczema x
