I’m 9 weeks pp & I have a PT I’ve been doing some weights just low weights and low reps
The censuses is whatever you did before pregnancy should be fine to do during. Given you’re not BASE jumping or deadlifting 300lbs. LOL For example, I maintained my same strength training/weight lifting routine throughout pregnancy. Had to tailor to my energy level and physical comfort, of course. I was always very tuned into my pelvic floor and never overdid anything. And you’re correct! Abs no, but transverse abdominal muscles yes! I’m a core workout queen as well and maintained TVA training throughout. Hope this helps!
You can weight train especially if you’ve always weight trained. Just lower weights really. I use an app called ladder and they have a pregnancy coach which is brilliant I’m now 30 weeks! Xx
Hi I weight trained right up to 39 weeks was in the gym when I was in latent labour! I went to physio with PGP and she was happy as long as I wasn’t over exerting myself to carry on as normal. I found in the third trimester legs was getting harder and harder I had to change quite a lot but that was mainly down to the pgp rather than pregnancy itself. I stopped doing all abs by trimester 2 but that’s just as I was unsure of what I could and couldn’t do and never did anything where I was resting on my tummy after trimester 1. I did back, shoulders & arms and legs Cardio I hadn’t found time for before being pregnant so I didn’t do a lot as I know my body wasn’t used to it. In terms of weight I just wouldn’t over exert but used my body as a guide, if it felt right I carried on and if it felt too much I’d stop and adjust the weights down xx
I follow bumps and burpees and paid for download happy to share if you want me to email/whatsapp... depends what you're used to too, I did crossfit a few times a week and lifting before pregnancy but then was too scared to do anything for a while as nhs just aren't equipped to advise - they were very much saying take it easy, light exercise such as walking etc but if you're used to more then keep doing what you're used to and reduce intensity as pregnancy progresses/listen to your body xx
I weight trained throughout my pregnancy, was still deadlifting at 37 weeks! But I already weight trained a lot before getting pregnant and was told as long as it's not something new you're fine. I had a PT to help adjust some movements too. The main thing you need to avoid when weight training is any crunching moves to protect your abs. But I really enjoyed still doing lower body and I think it really helped protect my back.
Hey! I’m 15 weeks and have continued to weight train but just adapted slightly - mostly avoiding crunches etc but obliques are still ok if you did them before! There’s lots of pregnancy safe free workouts on YT if you want a bit of inspo x
Thanks all! Does anyone know what the general consensus is for abs? I am 12 weeks and I do a lot of abs workout at Pilates, instructor knows I’m pregnant and makes me avoid twists, but no feedback on abs (planks, leg raises, crunches, etc)
I kept doing crossfit until 38 weeks modifying as I got bigger e.g. deadlifting off blocks, bike instead of running. Just listen to your body! Only thing to avoid is any core workout that causes coning.
It depends on what you were doing pre pregnancy. I was doing CrossFit before becoming pregnant and I was told to just keep going as I was as long as there wasn’t any pain. I’m currently 10 weeks PP and I weight lifted heavy well into my pregnancy as well as doing handstands. Towards the end, I started decreasing the weight just cause I was exhausted and it felt wrong to push myself to hard. The most important thing is to listen to your gut, if it feels wrong then don’t do it. You know your body and your capability better than anyone
@Laure handstands during pregnancy- absolutely love this!! 💪💪
You can train as you were before but just listen to your body. I’m doing CrossFit still and competed at 10 weeks however listening to my body. Now 16 weeks and still Olympic lifting just not going for pbs and working more on mobility and accessory work.
Hi! I can’t help but I am following because I’m in the same position (Just a few weeks behind!)
