Breastmilk

How much milk typically should a 1 week old be drinking? Baby was born with 6lbs 1oz and premature. Midwives are giving him 52mls but I feel like it’s abit too much and he won’t finish it..

Any chance you can reach out to a lactation consultant for advice?

@Jaanki they don’t have anyone at the hospital 😓

I was told with breast milk you don’t think or look at the numbers as it’s more filling it’s completely demand baby will tell you when they want it and when they’ve had enough! But for feeding I believe it’s 120ml per every kilo of weight plus the odd. Breast milk is not done via numbers as when baby is on the breast you wouldn’t know how much they’ve taken? I hope that helps xx

@Deonie im afraid I can’t get baby to latch on atm so im having to express and put it in a bottle xx
