Breastfeeding (how long per breast?)

Breastfeeding mums how long do your babies feed per breast? Do you feed both in one feed or just the one? How long do your babies feed for and how many times a day? My baby is 14 weeks and it feels like she snacks lots of times rather than feed for a long time. She's slow in gaining weight, so wanting to have an idea of what other babies do. Thanks

I always fed both breasts in each feed. How long babies feed is entirely dependent on the baby and their age. The older they get the more efficient they get so the less time they spend on there. In terms of times a day not the foggiest. I fed on demand from birth so some days 8 times others 15+

I do just one side per feed and alternate. She'll feed anywhere between 8-20minutes depends on how hungry/time since last feed and about 6-7 times a day usually. She's 5.5 months

90% of the time I feed on both sides and she spends 10-20 minutes (more often than not it’s 20mins) at each breast. She feeds about 6 times during the day (every 3 hours) and is currently sleeping through the night.

I feed her on both sides. Time depends on her but it is at least 10 mins each time, normally closer to 20

My boy (16w) sounds very similar to you. Staying on 5 mins is good for him during the day - its often more like 1-2 mins 😕 I always offer both and he will usually go on the second - but often only for a minute or less. Feed before bed is usually longer and sometimes more like 20-30 mins (in dark, so distraction and usually ends in sleepy flutter sucking which I leave him doing until he fully comes off). Overnight he also feeds longer, so currently i feel he is getting more of his calories overnight 🙄 but also not putting on enough weight. If anyone has advise on how to get longer feeds I would LOVE this. No idea if he's just distracted or I have a low supply or what.. he always seems pretty content and rarely fussy at the boob- just constantly popping off!

@Natasha what was his birth weight? And what is he now? Mine was 75th centile and now is following 25th.

Pretty much exactly the same- he was 75th at birth (8.07lb) and was then tracking around 25th. I weighed him yesterday and now 22nd (6.29kg at 16w) so am a bit worried 😟

@Natasha my hv advised doing breast compressions whilst feeding to encourage baby to keep sucking for longer periods of time ☺️

@Natasha @Heather I had the same advice. My baby (girl) is 5kg 170g at 13 weeks and 5 days. They didn't seem worried worried, but said to weigh her again in 3 weeks. She also dipped a bit this weighing.

I was told that I had to offer both every time I feed and I wait till he comes off
