Struggling to get up/ go to work 😫

Hey everyone, I’ll be 32 weeks tomorrow and I’m really beginning to struggle at night with heartburn/ nausea/ needing a wee and just general insomnia and therefore struggling to get up early for work 😭 I’ve had the last 2 days off but I’ve felt so guilty by the afternoon as I feel generally okay after I’ve had a lie in and caught up on sleep/ napped through the day. I have 4 weeks left at work before I finish for Mat leave (I’m a teacher so finishing work before the Easter holiday but officially starting Mat leave just after). I really don’t want to start my mat leave early as I want as much time off as possible with my baby, and as a teacher have no annual leave to use so just wondering if anyone has any tips/ advice for sleeping better/ getting up in the mornings/ getting through the work day 😭

a maternity belt and supportive shoes help me feel more awake and less in pain during the day, as for heartburn and nausea i find it better to snack instead of eating big meals. for waking up i dont have much good advice apart from trying sleeping earlier or having a nap after work, and if you still drink coffee having a small glass with breakfast to give that extra wake up

Xonvea is a pregnancy safe anti-sickness med. It makes you sleep amazingly and might help your nausea. I take 1 before bed and sleep really well. Worth asking your GP for it - but my advice is to ask for it in relation to the nausea as I doubt they’d prescribe it for the insomnia. If you have any Q’s about this feel free to get in touch - I’ve been taking it my entire pregnancy xx

I’m 31 weeks and also a teacher. I’m working until Easter too and struggling! I find planning some quiet/independent activities for the kids to do first thing in the morning makes my mornings a bit easier and allows me some time to sit for a bit even if it’s just a small chunk of time. Have you spoken to HR? They might be able to alter your working hours and allow you to start work at break time for example.

I’m absolutely exhausted at 31 weeks all the time, a secondary school teacher & mum of a 15 month old, so reading this was so relatable! Schools been great, I’ve had another risk assessment because fatigue & backache is terrible at this point. They’ve given me later starts so I don’t have morning form, a specially designed chair which supports my back, a fan just for my classroom & I ask for support staff with the more challenging classes. This has made a big difference! Definitely ask for another risk assessment & consider what will make it easier for you in the next few weeks as you really don’t want to struggle. I’m yet to speak to teacher friends or acquaintances who’s school haven’t been supportive, so go for it to make work life a bit easier 🫶🏻 Sleep-wise, I’m taking a warm bath every evening with Epsom salts & lavender oil, candles & a face mask plus no screen-time ~1 before bed which has helped a lot 😌
