Pumping

Just out of curiosity is it bad to start pumping before 36/37 weeks (I’m currently 33 weeks)? Someone told me it’s dangerous and wouldn’t advise it and I also searched it which it said it could lead to preterm labour. I was using a pump to help with the pressure and soreness of my boobs/nipples which helped however managed to pump at least 5ml from each side last night without realising until after I had finished. Then my partner had a fair point of “if it’s dangerous and could lead to preterm labour then surely its dangerous if you were already breastfeeding a child and then fell pregnant… I know most people will say check with your midwife but thought I’d see your guys thoughts.

I had a midwife appointment yesterday and she recommended hand expressing from 36 weeks so it doesn't kick start labour too soon. However I did ask this question cause it was on my mind too and she said due to hormones when actually breastfeeding, your body knows the difference between when you're actually feeding a child or just stimulation if that makes sense🥰

@Keely oh I see! My partner is now moaning that he can’t play or suck on them anymore just incase it kick starts it🤣

Don't know whether pumping is safe, but I used to hand express colostrum to syringes daily, 3 times a day, from week 36 and store them in the freezer. They saved me in the first hours at the hospital and when went back home, as I started having milk a couple of days after, and also, baby couldn't latch at the beginning.
