First mommy & baby date!

My baby girl and I’m meeting a friend with her baby for the first time next weekend. They were both born in December so we’re just doing a little walk with our babies together. My baby was born 26 weeks gestation though so she just recently reached her due date and isn’t able to smile or laugh or hold her head up yet. I’m so scared because this is the first time she’ll be going out (aside from the doctors). I’m afraid she’ll cry and I won’t know how to calm her in public. Usually she only cries if she’s hungry or uncomfortable but my anxiety brain is telling me she’ll cry in public and I have social anxiety! Any tips on what to bring and what to keep in mind of for our first outing?

Take your baby carrier..if she cries strap her in there and give her the boob. You can thank me later!

That’s huge! I felt the same way the first time I took my little guy out! Keep in mind that your friend knows what you’re going through, too, so if it just doesn’t feel right for any reason, it’s low stakes and you just go back home. I had a friend who told me the first couple outings are the hardest, but to keep going. I canceled my first two outings, so my actual first outing was a solo walk with baby in the carrier to pick up a library book. If/when I’m meeting up with friends for a walk now, I let them know a time-ish, and I don’t put extra pressure on myself nor baby if we’re running late. You’re already her favorite source of comfort, so just holding her close is going to be your best tool. Keep us posted with how it goes! You’ve got this!

Just go knowing that if your baby cries and gets fussy, you can simply take her home ♥️ its baby steps like this that will make you more confident. Don’t be afraid to take a breather outside to try and soothe her first. Also it helps to say a little prayer beforehand, ask for confidence to remain calm if your baby cries Make sure to bring two pacifiers (in case one falls), her diaper changing stuff, and of course bottles or formula if she is hungry Dress her in layers in case it gets too hot she can stay cool and and a blanket if she gets cold :)
