Circumcision

Hello, I’m due with a boy here in a few weeks & the topic of circumcision has come up a few times with my husband and I. He’s circumcised & wants our son to be circumcised as well. I’ve been doing a lot of research about it & how it can reduce the chance of UTI & Phimosis and that getting it later in life is more dangerous, but I’m also on the fence about doing it to my child altogether. What are you moms doing & how do you feel about it? Please don’t attack me or be rude. I’ve never seen an uncircumcised penis & all the males in my family are circumcised so I’ve never put much thought into it until I was due with my son.

It's all a matter of opinion. I'm due with a boy in a few weeks as well, we are circumcising. My husband is circumcised. Personally for me I feel it is more hygienic ( yes you could teach your child proper hygiene etc ) but kids in general aren't very clean for a long time. Being the CNA I was for many years and am now a nurse, the pain that the extra skin causes them in their older years is horrendous and unnecessary.

I personally circumcised my son and it was not a big thing at all! Babies recover so so fast. But yeah definitely a personal decision and lots of moms don’t circumcise which is totally fine to. You just do whatever you and your husband feel most comfortable with and don’t worry about anyone else’s opinion!

I was on the fence with my first son, but my husband wanted him circumcised. Now with my second son, I feel like we have to anyway because we can't have one son circumcised and one not. But part of me really didn't want to do it. But I agree with @Hanna , I'm also a nurse and that thought crossed my mind as well. When they're older if they ever need someone to care for them I want them to be able to be as clean as possible.

I was reassured by my OB about the comfort, healing time, and he patiently answered all the questions for me. Thankfully he said dad could go in with him so they won't just take him away for a random 30 min in the hospital. I have random anxiety about not having eyes on my children in the hospital like someone's gonna take them or they'll get lost.

Absolutely not. It's genital mutilation, no matter how quickly it heals, etc. I didn't have a strong opinion before having kids, but my husband did and I educated myself on the topic more after that. We did not circumcise our son 4 years ago and won't be this one either. The "hygiene" argument is bs. So is the "will look different" argument - it's becoming far more common in the US now and is the norm in many parts of the world. Highly recommend Your Whole Baby for more information. Website, FB groups, etc. Our son has had zero issues. Our pediatrician never even commented about it, but there is still a lot of misinformation taught to physicians unfortunately, or carried by older ones. https://www.yourwholebaby.org/researching-parents

We made the decision to circumcise my husband was not circumcise as a baby he had A accident Around 8 years old and he had to get it done the trauma that he went through trying to get it fixed When he was younger He said if he ever had a boy he was going to circumcise him as a baby so he wouldn't have to go through the trauma 😔 we did the plastibell method he 3-year-old and has no problems it heal nicely

My fiancé is not circumcised, and we don’t plan on circumcising our son. Yes Infections and UTI is more probable but it’s because people are not educated on how to clean their uncircumcised penises! Doctors should explain that to us but they don’t! Personally I wouldn’t because as he gets older he’ll only ever know his body the way it is and I don’t think he’ll feel the need to cut when he’s older but THATS just me.

If you educate yourself only few contrives around the world circumcised their babies. I agree with Audrey, it is genital mutilation. My family comes from countries where circumcision is not a thing and they never got any infections at all. On the other hand my husband is and he had infections and had to do another surgery because the first one was done incorrectly. So for us is a nope!

My BF and I just had our visit with the doctor and talked about this for an hour. This is one of the resources she gave. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/evidence-based-birth/id1334808138?i=1000445777067

I’m British and my husband is American. It’s not the done thing in the UK and is in the US. Both of us were open to hearing each others arguments for and against. I mentioned that in my experience… interacting with both 😅 circumcised has been marginally cleaner. You can teach hygiene but there comes a time you aren’t in control of them anymore. BUT none of them have experienced any UTI’s or issues from it. Not a single uncut partner has ever experienced any pain or problems from having a foreskin. Not a single cut partner has problems either. My FIL also chimed in and said he regrets having his sons circumcised 😂 that pretty much decided it for us. We decided not to bother. We will teach hygiene, we will be open with communication so we know if any problems arise that makes it a necessity at any point. That’s the most we can do as parents.

I circumcised my first because my husband wanted to and he is also. I’ve heard too many stories about stuff happening later in life with issues of it not being done and then kids wanting it later in life more healing time more pain, I just nursed my son for a couple hours afterwards to give him comfort and try to distract him. He healed very nicely. Kids are dirty! Teenage boys even worse! They can say they cleaned properly but could’ve just ran some body was on them and hopped out of the shower (I know depends on the kid) but it just gave me a piece of mind talking to pediatricians and getting opinions. It’s ultimately up to you for now!
