I was on protein shakes before I got pregnant and when I asked my midwife she said basically there are so many ingredients in each type that there’s no way to say if they’re safe or not. So yeah I’d maybe ask your midwife but I cut mine out for the meantime!
I have protein daily my whole pregnancy and I believe it’s been great for me. Especially bc I don’t have much of an appetite anyways. I use a brand called promix. Very clean. The one in the pic looks clean too.
I was told it was fine by my midwife, but I also made sure I was taking one that wasn’t fortified with vitamins, to be safe.
My midwife has been shit and told me to refer to the NHS website i thinking I might just take it!?
I definitely think midwives aren’t educated enough on nutrition as a whole and often don’t know how to properly advise. The whey in your picture is fine. Grass fed and hormone free whey is always best with no artificial additives, there’s more toxins in a cup of coffee than this whey 😊. My only side note would be that whey can turn to paste like consistency in your digestive tract and cause issues like constipation or bloating. Something to keep and eye on or be aware of if you already suffer with these during pregnancy 😊
I think it’s important to get protein whilst they’re growing and it can be hard to eat all the plants for the vitamins etc and get in sufficient protein when there is a baby in there. For instance I was listening to a podcast by the doctors kitchen and his website stated I need 125g daily Protein but most of my pregnancy I’ve been getting maybe 70/80 so it’s handy for upping my intake when needed
Best to ask your midwife Id say. Mine said I could cause I was already having protein before hand. Just make sure you’re getting other forms of protein as well.
