Fluoxotine is a very mild antidepressant, GPs are likely to prescribe it to children. I was on sertraline throught my pregnancy and only about a month ago did I come off. I EBF too. Sertraline they worry about baby being born with heart defects and addiction but it's so mild they are usually fine within 3 days. We had checks every few hours at the hospital as I had pre-eclampsia concerns the day she was born so they wanted to make sure I was OK post birth and make sure she didn't had any heart defects from the sertraline. If the drug was unsafe for pregnancy and babies your Dr would have taken you off it. If it's not working and you're struggling to function I'd speak to your GP about it and see if they can change your meds
@Ebony thanks, I did read something about fluoxotine causing heart defects too and this being the main concern but most babies are born healthy. I was hoping to have a home birth this time but I'm now guessing this may not be possible
@Fiona I was given the option for a home or hospital birth. I opted for hospital mostly because she's my first and I wanted that comfort of the hospital incase something went wrong. The midwives might stay a tad longer post birth just to makes sure and might add an extra visit or two to double check everything is OK but I wouldn't have thought they'd refuse you if they offered it to me who had concerns of pre-eclampsia throught my pregnancy
I was offered sertraline over fluroxatine by a consultant because I worried about it affecting my daughter and my milk supply. I didn't end up taking them up on it. I decided to stay scatty
I took Fluoxetine my entire pregnancy and have continued taking it while breastfeeding. My baby is 10 months old now. Personally, I have awful panic attacks and was terrified of how that would affect my baby. All of my doctors were okay with me continuing the medication. I did also meet and speak with a maternal fetal health specialist who had zero concerns about my medication. If you’re able to see a maternal health specialist I would highly recommend it! My supply has also been perfectly fine. Feel free to reach out if you want to chat about it!
Not on Fluoxetine, but I am on Venlafaxine and was throughout my pregnancy. My daughter did suffer some withdrawal when she was born; she had jitters for about two weeks, but it went away and she's absolutely fine now. She's on expressed breast milk but the doctors have said that the amount that goes into the milk is negligible compared to whilst pregnant, so it's probably not even in her system anymore.
Hi, i decided to stop taking them while I was pregnant. I think you need to think about if that's an option or if your MH problems need the support of your medication. I think only you can decide this x
