Breastfed bebe refusing a bottle

Hello! I'm hoping for some advice if anyone has some, which I'm sure all you lovely mama's do :) My lil bebe has been exclusively breastfed, apart from some pumped bottles in the first few weeks when her dad was off work. Now she is getting older I am starting to think about leaving her with family etc and I have health conditions, so I worry if I end up in hospital or something, so I need her to get used to taking a bit of formula and a bottle. She is outright refusing even to suck on it at the moment, any advice or tips would be much appreciated! Thank you in advance! 🙌✨️🍄💖

Try using a sippy/straw/open cup? My LG has refused bottle too recently. Left her with dad for 5 hours and she wouldn’t have formula or expressed milk and waited until I got home 🙄 we’re using a Tum Tum cup for water, so going to try milk next x

We had the same issue, took a bottle really early on but we stopped after a tongue tie division and then refused. We tried all types of formula/bottles/temperatures and nothing worked so we stopped for a bit and tried again after weaning and he just took too it one day. We didn't really do anything different to when we tried before so I can't offer any advice other than take a brief break and come back to it. We ended up using Mam bottles with a size 2 teat and ready mixed aptamil 1 warmed up to 37 degrees. We've only replaced the mid morning feed at the moment though.

I’m in the same boat except mine never had a bottle at all. I tried with a tommee tippee bottle which we had for my first and she wouldn’t entertain it at all. I just bought a mam bottle and have been trying every day for the last 4 days, she wasn’t outright refusing it in her mouth so that was progress but was really only playing with it/chewing on it. Until today when she took 60mls, so I am hoping now we might start to make headway. I’m not sure there is a magic trick to it, would love to hear if anyone has one, but I think it’s just a case of keep trying at different times and eventually it clicks. My sister had the same but had to get hers on a bottle to go back to work and she just kept persevering every day and eventually it worked and now she’s fully stopped breastfeeding - her little one is 7 months.

@Liz that's what mine started like. Initially just playing and then slowly took more and more. I find if it's less than 4 hours since he last had milk and 2.5 since he had solids he won't take as much. I think he has to be hungrier to take a bottle than the breast as he doesn't quite get the same comfort from it

It’s taken us nearly 2 months but my little girl has finally started to accept formula milk in a Nuby ‘9 month plus’ bottle/cup. She’s still not consistent but she accepts a bit. Keep going everyone, keep trying xx

Thank you for all your words of wisdom gals, I really appreciate! I've tried different bottles and things but will persevere and try an open cup because she tends to drink water from them :) xxxx

Just to give an update - she has begun to take more and now looks excited when the bottle comes, so I feel we are well on the way! I think the trick is just perseverance and eventually it clicks! I think the max she’s had so far in one go has been 90mls but we’re yet to try when she is hungry hungry. Good luck, hope things start working out for you soon!
