@kristina thank you! we’ve tried again tonight and she opens her mouth for it but only takes a little bit, which is better than nothing and will keep trying! x
Yeah we are the same here - she so so wants to and has had the right idea for a while but barely actually takes any. Saying that, we kind of of stopped trying for a while because it wasn’t worth the spilled and wasted milk and tried giving sips of water now that we are weaning (now 5.5mo) and she’s actually gulping so maybe I’ll try with milk again! One day I will have someone else feed my baby just one feed, one day… it’s a long game!
@Jenna we deffo have hold it with the milk just touching his lips till he decides he’s ready and also take breaks when he pauses and burping in those breaks. Hope that makes some sense, I hope it gets easier for you soon x
@Katie ah that’s amazing!! are you weaning with solids or purées?i hope it works for you!! x
@kristina she moves so much i don’t want too much to go into her mouth so she chokes on it! hopefully she will get the hang of it as only been trying 2 days!! x
If you have no success I know some people have resorted to calpol syringes but it’s very tedious by the sounds of it. Maybe there’s on you could buy that holds a larger volume if push comes to shove x
We never used bottles or sippy cups and my daughter is now 2 1/2 years old. Using a plastic water bottle with the small opening was a game changer. Squeezing the bottle to make the water move up helped. Then we started using silicone cups that were flexible so she could control her grip. She didn’t figure out how to use a straw until 12-15 months old but that was fine. I just carried a normal water bottle on me at all times and wrote her initials on the cap to know there was baby backwash in it. Be consistent and try every day!
@Tay oh wow this is a great tip!! Thank you! Do you mean just the opening that the regular screw cap goes on to?
@Jenna combination of both, so she has the option to hold and try a finger of solid (but very easily mushed) food along with spoonfuls of puree. She insists on grabbing the spoon herself and it’s an awful mess but it’s all part of the process, or so I read! I’m following the ‘how to wean your baby’ book by Charlotte S.R, it’s really good and has loads of amazing looking recipes that I’m excited to try myself! So far we have tried broccoli (4/10) courgette (7/10), avocado (8/10) and potato (10/10)!
@Katie Yes, the opening is so much smaller and manageable than a full open cup. Using the mini plastic water bottles that hold 8oz are even better.
Hey, we’re cup feeding top ups, it’s pretty tricky. We’re breast feeding first to try settle before cup and also lightly swaddling with a muslin to keep his arms a bit under control, not sure what to suggest for head moving lots apart from trying to settle baby a bit first but wanted to comment to let you know you’re not alone x
