Clogged duct

I have had a clogged duct for about a week. It has became been painful and red last few days. No fever. I called the doctors and they gave me dicloxacillin. I’ve been take hot showers and then breastfeeding and massaging but it hasn’t helped. Any advice? They said the medication is safe forr breastfeeding.

Ibuprofen always worked for me and I’ve had clogged duct 4 times

The advice for treating clogged ducts has changed recently - they recommend an anti inflammatory approach of icing the clog and taking ibuprofen to reduce the swelling around the duct. Massaging it can irritate things even more rather than help. I had a few bad clogs and taking sunflower lecithin helped tremendously too! It’s an emulsifier so it makes the milk a bit smoother apparently.. Main advice I got was ice, rest, feed as normal!

Since it’s from inflammation, you don’t want to massage with too much pressure or use heat since that will make the tissue more inflamed. Very light upward massage from nipple to armpit can help with lymphatic drainage. Cold can help with the swelling and pain as well. And make sure to wear loose fitting tops and bras if you can! Hope you’re feeling better soon, that’s no fun at all!
