Shy in public and crazy at home

My 17 month old has a big and bold personality at home! He’s very talkative and runs around, dances and plays like crazy. Over the past few months he’s become increasingly more shy when I bring him to a library class or a setting with a lot of unfamiliar people and it takes him a while to warm up in those situations. It’s like he’s a totally different kid at home vs out in public! I’m not concerned about him being shy and I don’t think it’s a bad thing that he doesn’t open up to strangers right away. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with their son/daughter?

That’s normal! They’re learning stranger danger. My son used to go to anyone no problem now if someone he doesn’t see everyday gets too close he shys away. Hiding until I start talking with them showing him it’s “safe” and he’ll slowly come out of his shell

@Sage Jones My son does the same thing! I keep just trying to encourage him to participate in the classes we go to and tell him everything’s fine he just seems very hesitant sometimes. It’s just such a difference from how he acts at home but I’ll keep working on it with him!

My son is the same age, same way! I was worried about it too, but I think he may just have a temperament same to my own, he just takes a minute to warm up to the new environment! But I'm glad to hear our situation is more normal

Daughter IDs 17m too and is the same way! She’ll say hi and bye out the window all day long, the moment we get to the park, it’s dead stares all day long long

Yes! My daughter turns me into a liar about her abilities daily. 🤣

I’ll tell my son to say bye bye to ppl and he’ll just give them a blank stare almost like a mug. As soon as that person starts to drive off or go around the corner then my son will say bye bye 😂😂😂

@Gina THIS!!!
