Can my Dr just not prescribe me medication after saying she would?

I had a Dr appointment for the first time in a while on the 26th. The visit was mainly for some other issues I was having but it became solely about my mental health after scoring high on the questionnaires. I scored a 20 for anxiety and 26 for depression at my visit. My Dr was telling me that she would prescribe me something for my anxiety etc. So I can be comfortable while waiting for an appointment with a psychiatrist. The medical assistant I had even told me I was being prescribed 2 medications. I waited until the next day and called my pharmacy just to find out nothing was ever sent in for me. Called my Drs office to ask about it and a few hours later my chart was updated and said I wasn't prescribed anything. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do my anxiety and depression are bad to a point where I'm having a hard time functioning. Can she just not prescribe me medication after saying she would?

That sounds confusing. Did you tell the receptionist exactly the problem? Maybe make another appointment because that doesn't sound right. Trust your instincts ❤️

ask if you can speak directly with your doctor (you definitely should be able to) she might’ve just forgotten to put it in your chart?

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially when you were expecting help and were let down. Doctors can change their minds about prescribing medication, but the fact that you were told you’d be getting something and then weren’t given any explanation is not okay. You definitely have the right to call back and ask why the prescription was never sent. If they’re refusing to prescribe anything, they should at least offer an alternative plan to help you manage your symptoms while waiting for the psychiatrist. If your anxiety and depression are making it hard to function, you might also consider going to urgent care or an ER if you need immediate support. You deserve to feel better and get the help you need, don’t let them leave you in limbo. Keep advocating for yourself, and if this doctor isn’t responsive, it might be worth looking for another provider who takes your mental health more seriously. Sending you strength❤️

Do you have any mental health walk ins we have some here where I'm at and I think they can help sometimes while you wait for a primary.

@Patricia yes I did I called yesterday and all I got was an update on my chart. When I looked at the update I seen she still didn't prescribe me what she said. I'm just gonna have to call again today.

@Brianne I'm not sure tbh. I'm not from the area I live in currently and most walk in places take forever here 😩

@Asia give them a call back and ask that you speak to the doctor. It’s annoying to have to play phone tag but the doctor needs to explain why she didn’t prescribe something (if it was intentional) and if she forgot ask when you can expect her to call it in to the pharmacy so you know if you need to call their office back. If the receptionist says the doctor isn’t available, ask when she will be at her desk working on notes and available to speak so you can call back. ^ what I had to do for a referral to a specialist because the doctor didn’t send it to the specialist’s office.
