Mine started offering at 36 weeks, but it was voluntary. I'm sure if you asked, they'd be willing
I’d personally wait as there’s no benefit to doing it other than knowing. You could be dilated for months and not go into labor, however there are risks however small associated with them checking. My OB doesn’t offer until 38 weeks and even then it’s only by request never outright offered. I asked cuz I don’t want checked unless medically necessary. 🤷🏼♀️
Thank you, I’ll definitely ask my next visit. I saw a male doctor this time around when I was told that, so maybe I was just too uncomfortable to ask at the time
When I worked in OB we did the gbs swab between 35-36 and the dr would then ask if they wanted to be checked I got mine last week at 35 weeks I go Monday and will ask to be checked again. It really only becomes risky when your water breaks as the risk of bacteria transmission is higher but definitely do what you are comfortable with
Girl mine came at 37 weeks and I dilated 3 cm and then only moved up by 1cm since then 😭
I just turned 37 wks but I had an appointment this previous Thursday and asked my midwife due to experiencing contractions and found out I’m 1 cm dilated and 70% effaced
I would definitely request just to know so you’re more prepared
@Winnie this is what I feel is happening to me lmfao so like I want to hand express colostrum but then I don’t want my baby to come until at least 38-39 weeks 😭
@Winnie Jeez it sounds like it’s gonna be a slow journey to labor lol
I was 1cm dilated at 33 weeks at the hospital, I’m now 37 weeks, and doctor told me “it’s not necessary to check if I am dilated more” to prevent unnecessary infections. But I do feel like I’m definitely dilating more by now, since im having so much discomfort down there and constractions but nothing to go to the ER yet. But you can definitely ask them.
I never find out, not all places do cervical checks because they are kinda useless. You could be 0 and have the baby later that day, or 4 and still have 3 weeks. I don’t see the point. Plus there are risks!
