Gestational hypertension

Hi all, Has anyone had experience of gestational hypertension being controlled by medication and then going full term in their pregnancy? I’ve just started labetalol which is controlling my blood pressure. Before I was on the meds drs recommended an induction at 39 weeks which I am thinking of accepting. But has anyone been told they could also go full term if meds are controlling it? I know everything is a choice so I could decline the induction and go full term myself but just wondering x

Yes! Found out I have this yesterday and started the labetalol - go back tomorrow to see if it's working. 🤞🏻 I have a c section booked at 39+6 but have been told they will bring this forward if needed/if they can't control the high BP. I've got 4 different appointments for BP checks, scans and blood tests now this week 😂

I had gestational hypertension. Started labetalol at about 18/40. I was advised to be induced at 39 weeks which I agreed to. Also because of the labetalol they have to monitor babys blood sugars for so many hours after they are born as it can have some effects on that but my LO blood sugars were fine. X

@Sally don’t worry, you’re not alone!! I’m with you 😅 fingers crossed it’s working. Not sure if they said the same to you but they told me to take it 12 hours apart so currently doing 8am then 8pm as on one tablet twice a day x

@Natasha glad baby’s blood sugars were ok! Yes they’ve said expect to be in after for about 24 hours so they can monitor baby. Hopefully will all be ok. Will ask on Tuesday when I’m back in about the induction thing x

Yes taking it 12 hours apart 🤞🏻 They haven't mentioned anything about baby blood sugars after birth though. I'll ask tomorrow!

@Sally yes ask! I was told by the midwife again as she said that some people aren’t told and then they are surprised when they stay in. BUT it could be down to individual hospital guidelines so may be different for you x

Thank you! X
