15-20lbs is okay to begin, but IMO you’ll need to start going way heavier with the weight for real gains. Which usually means ending up at the gym unless you want to buy weights that heavy for home. I totally understand on the gym and feeling intimidated…what helped me was getting a couple of training sessions first so I got to know the machines and free weights pretty well. Once I had my routine down I stopped feeling like that. You can do it! 💪🏾💪🏾
Most definitely- mind to muscle connection and volume are huge keys in the gym. If you hit a plateau with weight, add tempo (1 second pause at the top/3 seconds on the way down). Bands are a huge help too. If you can learn how to pump your muscles with blood using little to no resistance (mind to muscle connect) you can go very far. If being at home is difficult for developing that connection, then maybe consider a gym with a women’s section. Of course for nutrition, majority protein and keeping maintenance calories. Goal should always be able to recomp enough so you can be able to feed yourself more. That why off seasons should be longer than cutting seasons. Great goal!! Don’t fall for home program bait. There are TONS of free online resources that can help you. Would be happy to refer people so you can save your money.
I think you can definitely start at home, just look up some TikTok videos that target your body goals
Yes, you can absolutely do body recomposition at home with what you have! Focus on strength training with your dumbbells (squats, lunges, hip thrusts) and use resistance bands to target muscles. Aim for 3-4 days a week of strength training, plus cardio (like treadmill walking) for fat loss. Consistency is key—your home setup is great to get started. The gym is an option, but home workouts work just as well if you’re committed and can carry you through long term. You’ve got this!
Hey if you’re ever interested in an online trainer I can organize a plan that works with what you already have at home if that’s the most convenientfor you! You can most definitely do a body recomp with what you have!!
Wow thanks for all the responses. Going to start this weekend !! & Tayva I will definitely reach out to you
Hi!! Yes! 100 percent, yes. I got in the best shape of my life from not going to the gym. I used to go to the gym all the time, but it wasn’t until I honestly had no choice (because of COVID), and created my living room as a “gym”. I don’t get anything for saying this, but honestly, Beachbody (now BODi) is amazing. You can do most all of the workouts from your living room. I’m a holistic nutritionist now, and I’ve learned it’s all about you’re entire lifestyle that can help you be the best you 🙂

Yup I do it every so often just have to be consistent. I also prefer small dumbbells 10lbs or less for arm days for slow controlled movements. I don’t want to be bulky
