The struggle for sure. My kids like to do that often. We try to offer the food again or maybe a small snack like a piece of bread with peanut butter especially if there’s a lot of time between food and sleep. But yeah they love to sleep without eating sometimes
If my guy refuses dinner our go to is yogurt. I make a fruit and veg compote weekly and mix it in the yogurt. I usually include some kind of vanilla/cinnamon/honey/ginger depending on the fruit and veg. Then I’ll add some ground flax seed as well. I don’t want to necessarily replace and make a whole new meal- but I do want to make sure his nutritional needs for brain development and growth are there! I focus on a well rounded snack that has fats/fiber/carbs when he won’t eat a meal.
Pretty normal if you're around the year, year and a half mark. I'm finding that these kids seem to manage fine even if I feel like she should be eating more - mine has gone to bed on almost no dinner, had a glass of milk before bed, and been fine all night long. I just make sure to offer regular meals and snacks, not always with fruit, but a preference for fruit is kind of inevitable, these babies like their sweet foods. 😅
@Samantha 18 months this week. So many changes recently!
@Gabrielle hopefully he sleeps through 🤞🏻
@Hannah good call My boy could eat fruit all day long. Luckily he doesn’t often refuse dinner like this. Just always hurts more when I’ve made more effort 🤣
@Melissa yeah he’s 18 months this week. Fruit is his LIFE! This guy will eat two bananas a day. And he’d eat more if I let him. At least it’s not chocolate I guess
@Hannah what veggies do you usually put in your compote? I made a fruity chia jam the other day but sounds nice to add some veg too
@Emmo we love chia seed jam too! This week was sweet potato and pear with ginger and honey. Last week we did zucchini and strawberries with vanilla. I try to choose mild veg if I’m going to be adding it to his yogurt. Like carrots, butternut squash, sweet potato, zucchini, spinach, beets, rhubarb, kale. I will usually steam the veg just until soft before I blend everything together.
@Hannah hi hanna That sounds great. Couls you pls recommend the fats/fiber/carbs snacks. 😊
@Shweta of course! As I said above we love yogurt with a homemade fruit and veg compote/puree. Add in some ground flax seed, natural sweetener if babe is old enough. Covers all the bases. Yogurt is something he has almost every day. I think of it as flavored yogurt without the added sugar, fruit concentrates. Whole wheat toast with nut butter and banana. Cheese cubes with whole wheat crackers and tomato. Avocado toast with salt free everything bagel seasoning. Hummus with whole wheat pita and cucumber. Coconut milk chia seed pudding with fruit and veg compote layered in. We also love smoothies and fruit as snacks too! You can add fruit to any meal or snack. I know smoothies can be controversial in BLW because babe should have texture. My son is about 1.5 years old now and eats well most days. We have picky spells. I don’t know if you guys have the brand Once Upon a Farm available in the UK but those are my favorite easy, healthy snacks if I’m in a pinch and don’t prep.
Congratulations you have officially reach toddler picky eating! Buy more berries and cheese and nothing green 😂 for what it’s worth I’d eat the hell out of that lol
Do you eat at the same time as them? I heard recently it's a good encouragement for babies to eat all their food too x
how old is your baby? i can SO relate!!! 😭my 14mo would do the same, he loves strawberries lol. one time he refused everything and kept asking for more strawberries and he had like 10 of them and that was his dinner
