They will have you explain EVERYTHING you feel is wrong, your symptoms, your feelings/thoughts, how do you see the world, how do you see yourself etc. They’ll diagnose you (if needed) and they’ll prescribe you medication. That’s all they do and you only schedule wit them every 4-6 months sometimes longer. They only really deal wit the “hard” drugs for psych individuals. Mine she said she would allow folks to talk to her if they feel new symptoms and such arises or if you have questions about your medication or changes etc. Those kind of things.

As far as therapy that is what yah have to use to actually break down and talk about your traumas and overcoming them. Yah just have to find a therapist that specializes in your trauma or yah have to find someone you vibe wit. Yah won’t find a great therapist on your first few times trying it out. Try to be patient and open to the experience and if yah really feel they’re not trying to help or methods aren’t working ask if they have different methods or let them know you will be looking for other therapist and yah don’t feel yall are compatible which is okay! Don’t let it deter yah love. You’ll find someone who actually listens and is willing to help. It’s hard but unfortunately everything in life yah have to work for some way at some point. If getting better mentally is a priority for yah then you will get through this hurdle 💜

Maybe you need to try a different therapist? Or a different style of therapy? In my experience as someone who sees both, my psychiatrist diagnosed me, prescribes and reviews my medication and reviews my progress. Therapy will focus more on learning how to live with, and manage the condition. Hope this helps ❤️

Therapy they will talk things out with you, whereas a psychiatrist will ask you how you feel, why do you think you feel that way, they will usually diagnose and prescribe something and then kinda see if it’s helping or not based on how you feel. My therapy is 40-hour whereas my psychiatrist appt is like 20-30 because we are just going over my symptoms and feelings with the medication and if we need to adjust or not

My psychiatrist is able to tell my why I feel the way I feel and things I need to work on in therapy. I then go to my therapist and explain to her what my psychiatrist said and they talk it out and come up with ways to help.

Thanks everyone
