I just left my OB appt and I’m 2.5 cm dilated at 36 weeks. She told me she can tell he’s around 8lb by looking at me so would do a membrane sweep at 38 weeks if I wanted. What are your providers saying? I keep hearing both sides like they don’t need to sell do anything because big babies are born all the time but this doctor made me feel like it was risky to let him get too huge.
They don't actually know. I was told I'd have a 6 pound baby because I measured so small and she was 7lbs 9oz.
@Cat Can tell by looking at you? Are they like 70 years old? I'd be side-eying them so hard. lol Mine offered a membrane sweep this week (39), probably would have last week if I wanted. I was 3cm then and am at 4 now though. I'll do it next week bc it will be the day before my induction so I'll try any last ditch effort.
I haven’t had one cervix check this whole pregnancy idk if I’m dialated or not
The further along in pregnancy the estimates are taken, the less accurate they are! Try to take the measurement with a grain of salt and don’t let it shake your confidence. It could be 2 lbs off!! You got this mama 🫶🏻
@Audrey I know right lol. Although I can feel how big he is. He’s huge. I will know more after my ultrasound tomorrow. That’s wild! When I was at 4cm with my first I felt like I was dying the contractions were so bad. I guess that goes to show dilation doesn’t mean much.
The pre-birth estimates are notoriously inaccurate, so I don't panic! I had episiotomies with both of my previous births and it was no big deal, minimal pain and easy recovery. Honestly, I agree with the doctor that recommended it the first time - if you're going to tear anyway, might as well get a nice clean incision to have stitches up 🤷🏻♀️ First baby was 8lb 1oz and second was 9lb 7oz. I'm due on the 7th too! Induction scheduled on the 9th, but we're optimistic I won't make it that far. 4 cm as of this morning and he's finally come down a little bit, somewhat effaced but she said still relatively thick so I don't know (she doesn't tell me a %). I wasn't dilated ahead of either of my last two, so hoping that makes it go faster this time? I'm just so ready, and assume he'll be another big baby but I haven't had an ultrasound since 32 weeks. My OB suggested that when I'm sitting/laying down, pull my legs up to like squat position similar to birthing. Haven't heard that one before.
