Baby talking??

Is it possible for a 5 month old to be talking? My mom and I clearly heard her say “hi” twice today and when she was crying I heard “mamma” three times today.

I personally believe so lol my 5 month old has been saying hi, mama, and bye bye but maybe it’s them just learning their sounds and mouth movements? I’m still sticking with they are talking🤣

Yes my girl said mom 3 times now then when chillin with her daddy she said Dada he came running to me trying to get her to say it again 🤣 she also says i love you and hi

Mine said manma

yes mine says mama and mom a lot as well as hey butttt I lowkey don’t count it yet because I don’t think he’s intentionalllyyyy saying it hahahhaha like I don’t think he really knows the full meaning behind it rather than just starting phonetics babbling idk 😂😂😂

Yes

I swear my daughter has started saying mom

My baby started saying hi and yeah at 4 months, she still does. Now she added dada, she’s said hi dada before. You aren’t crazy, you’ve got a smarty pants! (She’s 6 months old now for ref)

Theres a chance they are repeating what they have heard you say. Babbling very commonly sounds like mama, dada, baba, etc. Hi is a very easy sound to make, especially the "i" part, so baby is attempting to mimic your speech. So, in that sense, yes, it's possible baby is "talking." However, pediatricians won't count something as a word unless it is used with intention and meaning. At this age, baby is practicing mimicking sounds, so probably doesn't count as a first word yet 😅

@Grace I assume it’s accidental but since it’s happened multiple times I’m unsure haha

@Michelle oh its definitely on purpose! Babies mimic at this age. By intentional I mean they're saying "mama" to mean you and they have awareness that's what the word means.
