How much are your babies still breastfeeding

My son still feeds every morning, for his nap, once in the evening and then 2-3 times at night. A GP said this was a lot I was just wondering what other people who are still breastfeeding are finding

We are the same. I don't listen to GP about it. My baby knows best how much she wants 😊 sometimes she just feeds at night for comfort than anything else

Don't listen to GP they always talk a load of twaddle when it comes to breastfeeding in my experience! My son feeds 1x before bed and then 1x in the morning before breakfast. I was doing at least 1 feed (sometimes 2) during the night until fairly recently but have managed to wean him off night feeds successfully and we just offer water or dummy instead now.

Yeah same - the 2-3 times a night is sometimes 4-5 if he's teething/ ill. It's starting to not be sustainable with working too. Exhausted

I just started reducing to only bfing for naps and bedtime (so 3 times per day now). But literally up until last week I was breastfeeding even more than you!Breastfeeding is super healthy as long as you and baby are happy with it.Babies can still get 1/4 or 1/3 (I forget!)of important nutrients and minerals from breastmilk between 1-2 years of age and lots of health benefits for you and baby too!Well done, you x

@Peri I am really struggling with work I feel like I’m not even functioning

Thank you all for sharing - I was feeling really self conscious about it after she said it

Still 4-5 times in the day and min twice during the night! Same as the others, more when she’s sick or teething. I think your pattern sounds very normal! I’m so disappointed on your behalf that a medical professional would be anything other than enthusiastically supportive of such a normal, healthy practice Of course if you are taking strain with work, and shared this with the GO, then maybe they were trying to be supportive and reassure you that it’s okay to reduce the frequency if you need to to make it sustainable for yourself, which is definitely also true.

GPs are very very very rarely up to date on breastfeeding or are up to date with the latest research. I am so sorry you’ve had this treatment. On a typical work day, I’ll feed him once before work, once when we get home, once before bed and then 1-2 times in the night. On my day off/weekend, it is constant! I let him feed on demand and if we are at home, he wants it all the time but less so if we are out and about. He’s teething at the moment and he wants me for comfort constantly. I’ve only put in the boundary of 2 feeds in the night & let him feed whenever he wants. But, boundaries are possible. Lucy Webber has some good info around setting boundaries xx

This is completely normal and is the case with my 14 month old! I literally just feed him whenever he wants and don't really question it. I just feel happy he is getting such great nutrients and antibodies to help prevent and fight off illness. The other night he randomly got a 40C temperature and he breastfed more than usual that night, the next day his temperature was back to normal and he was in a great happy mood and back to normal! Breastmilk is magic! GPs literally know nothing about breastfeeding so don't pay any attention to them. Breastfeed for as long as you like and as much as you like. If it's working for you and your baby and they are eating well also, it's so good for their health and wellbeing 🙏

I'd say a minimum of 5 times in the day and 3 times at night. Don't listen to the GP! They are useless with breastfeeding I find!

My boy is 15 month. He has 1 feed in the morning when he wakes up, 2 feeds during the day for both his naps. Feeds to sleep at bedtime and then usually 2/3 feeds a night. He has been feeding every hour the last few nights though as he is teething, I think it’s more for comfort. You’re doing a great job and you and your baby know what’s best and the right amount for you both. X

I only feed him before bed in the evening and in the morning right after he wakes up. In the day time and at night I only give him water. I used to nurse him every time he'd woke up at night but that was something I wanted to stop so I started giving him water instead and it worked , he just drinks few sips of water and then going back to sleep. In the last few weeks he only woke up 1-2 times.
