Bedtime routine

My baby has always been held to sleep but the past few nights even when she’s really tired she’s just messing about when I’m cuddling her to sleep. So 3 nights ago I ended up just putting her in her cot and letting her cry till she went to sleep (the crying was less than 10 minutes) The same happened last night she just messed and messed even laughing at me even though she was definitely tired so again I put her in her cot and she cried again but even less than 5 minutes this time. Tonight I haven’t let it get to the messing stage we had a bit of a cuddle then again in the cot and this time she literally cried for about 2 minutes then started self soothing to sleep. My question is … what do I do tomorrow do you think? I love my bedtime cuddles normally but with the messing they’ve become very frustrating, as much as I never wanted to let her cry at bedtime I think it seems to be working but don’t want to be cruel?

I would do what you did tonight. I found that my previously rocked to sleep baby sort of grew out of it and now sometimes he writhes until I put him down, he however still likes me near him at bedtime but at naps I just leave him and he whinges/low level cries for 5 mins and goes to sleep

My boy will either fall asleep on his last bottle or mess about after it trying to grab the bottle, giggling and squirming. It’s a tiredness thing. If he’s awake after the bottle I just put him to bed and he falls asleep in a couple of minutes

This is what happened to me a few months ago and then the contact naps became the time when she was messing around so now every sleep is in her cot and independently soothing herself. It’s such a bitter sweet moment, so proud of them but also missing the cuddles! I read her a story after or during her bottle then do her teeth and give her a cuddle then pop her down and walk out. Occasionally we have some tears but I always look at the time and wait 2 mins and she’s usually stopped before then x
