My little girl was sent for an ASD referral due to her traits, but what you’re describing about your little girl is like a carbon copy of what we’re going through speech-wise. If she doesn’t qualify for ASD then we will be looking for speech & language instead for sure. But my daughter had her audiology at the same time as her referral & that was from the HV so yeah as mentioned above, I don’t think that is correct about waiting for the audiology. Hope you get somewhere with it 🤍 we’re just waiting for our results
I'm little 1 has said a matter of 5 words won't sing or mimic anything I've got a speech and language referral, they say they not concerned about her hearing due to she acknowledges you when you say her name eye contacts and smiles, she knows what she wants just doesn't talk
I’m a children’s speech and language therapist. You can absolutely be referred to both SALT and Audiology at the same time. It may be worth going via your GP or seek a second opinion from another HV. Please don’t feel like you’ve failed. You getting help shows you care and are aware.
My boys is 3 years and nearly 5 months and he didn’t start talking until he was about 3 years 2 months. He’s still I guess you could say behind but he’s catching up. I did a self referral to speech and language, which I didn’t realise you could do. It may be different in your area? Although we are on a long waiting list. We were referred to audiology too and my son had glue ear which since it cleared up, his speech did improve or I knew I had to speak louder or next to him making eye contact. Although life is life and I would forget. Does your daughter go to preschool/nursery? This also helped my son to talk a bit more x
My son got referred to speech and language at the same time as audiology. So your health visitor isn’t right when saying they can’t be referred until the hearing test. He’s still not talking now. But he had a community nurse come to the house and do talk and play with him to begin with whilst we waited for a hearing test and for the speech therapy. As there’s a long wait time for these. He got referred in December and had his hearing test last week due to a cancellation that they had and his first speech therapy last week also.
