Advice

Please no judgment, only asking if I never taught my baby to talk but he’s been around other people and I have him watch Mrs Racheal and we do small interactions where we talk I never read to him and I regret that so much but starting to he just doesn’t like it. will he fail? if I never like internally taught him a sahm first time mom and I never babysat or anything. I’ve been so stressed about him not meeting milestones that I fully gave up for a couple months and now it’s even worse but I’m starting to plan activities with him and play but I’m worried he won’t catch up

Start reading to him now! The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is now.... Go crazy on books! In 6 months, you'll see big results. 🙂

How old is he?

@Makaila 16 months

If you can I’d call your insurance and get him speech therapy evaluation sooner than later. I did that for my daughter because at 2 she wasn’t talking she just used the baby sounds ya know and now after 2 months of speech therapy she is saying more words and she is using sign language and actually using effective communication with and without prompting!!! I’d suggest also keeping up with shows like Ms.Rachel and apps like Elmo calls the FaceTime like shows and games really do help a lot of you are ok with using screens

It's never too late. Keep talking, not just structured games, but narrating your day ("mama's putting on a coat now!"). Point things out, people in pictures, toys, things around the house, go for walks and name things. It gets easier with practice. Just... narrate. Television won't teach language, for the most part. Yes, they may pick up academic knowledge and information, but it's only that, passive information. To learn true social language, you need interaction. They need to say things to you and see how you respond, they need to learn the art of back and forth conversation and how people interact. I'm not saying do away with ms Rachel, I like her and think she's a sweet lady, just don't rely on it as a teaching tool.

Yeah I’d say whether he has a speech delay or not getting him evaluated couldn’t hurt!!

16 months? You have time for speech. Start a regular routine where you’re actively teaching him. He’s gunna be fine.
