Gurgling noises during nighttime

My 2 week old baby makes gurgling noises when we put her flat in her cot. She is also restless (without crying but she moves hands and legs a lot). However, when she is lying on my chest (on a prone position) she does not do them. She continues to do the gurgling noises all night long. I help her to burp after every feed but that did not change anything. Any suggestions on what that might be or any tips?

My baby does this too! Now 5 weeks old. On the chest they are silent but in the cot they make a lot of noise/movement whilst they settle into deep sleep. At first I found in concerning but have since accepted that that is just how they progress through the various sleep stages. I'm assuming that on the chest brings them the most calm as it brings them as close as they can get to bring in the womb. Would be good to know others experience and if they sought professional advice

This is often related to developing digestive system and breathing patterns but it's always best to get reassurance from their pediatrician if you're concerned

The thing is the midwives and paediatricians saw her and they said it’s normal. However, that doesn’t solve the fact that she is finding it so hard to lye on her back and sleep. Given the fact that every other position increases the risk of SIDS, I feel that I cannot make her safe and settled on one position to sleep.

Does she have any other symptoms, for example when feeding? Does she throw up a lot, hiccups etc.? I’m asking as my son who is now 7 weeks did this and he has reflux so maybe it’s that?

Could be reflux

My reflux baby is the same!

It sounds normal to me. Lying flat on their back is completely new to them as they are used to being curled up so it takes some getting used to. Plus, newborns are noisy and wriggly when they sleep!

I couldn’t expect to be that noisy to be honest. She does not do it all the time but when she does it, it feels like that something is irritating the back of her throat and she is trying to clear it. Does that sound like reflux?

@Marina sounds like silent reflux to me! What milk is LO on?

@Gem she is solely breastfeeding

@Marina what are nappies like? Could be reflux or CMPA and reflux! I’ve had two reflux babies and it’s tough!!!

They are a bit sore but I feel they are getting better. I can see that over the past 2-3 days she is “clicking” when she breastfeeds. She didn’t used to do that and she seems that she is properly attached. I also noticed that she sometimes stops and coughs when she is breastfeeding

@Marina maybe check for tongue tie as a massive cause of reflux-cough g could also indicate reflux too x
