Forceps delivery - pelvic floor

Hi, I had a forceps delivery, I’m 4 days postpartum and I have no control over my bladder. I can sense when it’s full and rush to the toilet and it starts going full flow. Does this get better, what can I do to help? How long does bruising take to go down as feel I can’t stand for long due to pain

I didn’t have a forceps delivery but with my first I completely lost the sensation of needing to pee. So I had to go to the toilet ‘just in case’ as I couldn’t feel if I needed to go or not. Doctors weren’t concerned and it did go back to normal on its own pretty quickly.

I had one, I kept taking pain reliefs for around 10-15 days to help in soreness. Ice packs , Frida mom ice pads helped alot sometimes. Lasinoh spray as well. Frida mom disposable panties are also good in terms of not hurting due to panty lines Initial 4-5 days I had this feeling of not being able to control pee. But it got better soon. Around day 18 I'm almost done with soreness.

@Preeti Agarwal thank you! This is reassuring and will look at those ice packs

I had similar and, to be completely honest, mine cleared up after a bowel movement on day 4 😂 it also got better each day. Physio saw me in hospital and said it is normal!

I was the same. I had an episiotomy and forceps and it took me about 3 weeks and I will now only have it when I sneeze. Ask to be referred to the pelvic health physio. I was told it’s really normal and you need to do pelvic floor exercises for at least 6 months post birth. I thought it was so abnormal and worried so much. It’s just not spoken about enough!

@Emily it really hasn’t been spoken about enough!! Thank you

Forceps delivery myself - I wore adult nappies for 2 weeks, I would stand up out of bed and it would pour out 😂 sneeze, cough etc and it would free flow, it was 2 weeks before I felt I had enough control back to feel confident wearing just a liner and pants! The joys of child birth!! ❤️

@Harriet did you also find it difficult walking? I find standing for too long causes a lot of pain - hoping it’s not just me 🙃

I couldn’t keep on my feet for long periods - my coccyx was incredibly bruised and my stitches were sore! You had a baby 4 days ago, rest and let everything settle down - child birth is brutal on our lady bits!! X

I had a forcep aided delivery nearly 3 years ago and another more straightforward vaginal delivery 14 months after, it does get better and easier but you gotta work those kegel exercises daily! I still can’t sneeze without crossing my legs 🥲

I had forceps In January and for a couple weeks I had completely lost the sensation of needing the toilet

I didn’t have forceps but had this after my first. It’s does get better just takes time

If needed for pain take pain killers they help with the pain just be careful if breast feeding
