Urgent help

My LG 8 weeks exclusively breastfed, (she’s only had a handful of formula/expressed milk in bottles) since yesterday has just refused to feed and to latch on. I’ve given her bottles since and she’s been fine but it’s driving me mad. I don’t want to lose my milk supply and making a bottle is just super annoying during the light. Any advise how to get her back on the boob ?

What teat are you using on the bottle? She may be favouring the bottle if the flow is faster than your breast. It’s less work for her! I would give the breastfeeding helpline a call if you’re in the UK. If not, go to a breastfeeding specialist. If you’re worried about supply in the meantime then you could pump every few hours. It’s not as effective as breastfeeding in maintaining the supply but it mimics breastfeeding and will definitely help maintain your supply until she’s back on the breast. I’ve also heard skin to skin is a good idea for encouraging breastfeeding!

@BethanI’m using the Mam teat 0. My supply is fine for now as I am still pumping. Really really don’t want to start formula yet also because I will have milk 😫 Will give them a ring tomorrow x

@@Bethan Thanks so much for recommending the helpline. I just gave them a ring and they were brilliant and managed to get my LG to latch for a couple minutes. What an amazing service! Highly recommend!!!

Sounds like a bottle preference. You'll need to reduce the bottles and be persistent with the direct latching.

Curious - what did they recommend that worked for you?

That’s fantastic! I haven’t used them before but had heard good things. I’m glad they were able to help!

@Divya I’m a FTM so whenever anything goes wrong I panic and I think that being able to talk to someone at 4am about my concerns and then just telling me it’s fine keep trying and check for certain cues just reassured me. I was at breaking point last night so that really helped me to let it out and then try again in a calm manner
