mine was the exact same except it was the copper iud. mine caused terrible pelvic pain, panic attacks, and anxiety. I got it removed and i haven’t experienced any of that since.
@Kennedi ugh see and I was gonna go copper next! Probably not!
@Heather it is good she knew, but I do wish she'd had said something before it was placed..
It's typically low risk due to hormones being localized shoppers to throughout your whole body, but it is still hormones. Everyone responds to birth control differently. Have you tried a copper IUD?
I’m so sorry you suffered this 😣 ! Unbearable is right! And for a year my gosh! How awful. I’m glad you’re sharing to let people know! I’m not against BC of any kind. But I never used hormonal BC because my mental health meds have needed adjustments fairly often. How could I quickly get an IUD out if I had a bad reaction? 😱 when I asked my doctor if I could hypothetically get an IUD removed right away due to a bad reaction, she said “No, we would prob encourage you to keep it longer.” !! 😡 If you need a BC method—besides a male partner getting a vasectomy, which he ultimately did, and it’s the best!— Marquette worked really well for us. No hormones. It involves peeing on ClearBlue monitor ovu sticks many days a month and avoiding sex on fertile days (or using condoms those days). It’s pricey but there are budget ways to do it. You can consult with a trained nurse for a personalized plan (we used Louise Boychuk). Or I can just give you a basic breakdown for free.
I did to nexplanon.
@Ele that's not actually birth control then no? It's natural family planning
Did your ob warn you about this? Seems weird that they would be like oh yeah some women dont do well with it AFTER the fact. Wtf like they literally knew about it and didnt warn you 🤣 not nice at all
@Monét that's what my OB recommended next
@Arlen i know!!! She came in like completely understanding what was going on and was like yup that's your problem... we've had some wonky experiences with this hospital
@Ele i had actually attempted to schedule and have it removed before but my daughter was hospitalized the night before my appointment
Yes. I had this exactly. I actually went to the ER to get it removed and told them if they didn't I would off myself because I couldn't find joy. I felt so so not okay and it made me have such awful horrible thoughts and feelings. I went to planned parenthood when they ER refused to take it out and I'm so forever thankful for them. They agreed to take it same day and the moment it was out was such a relief already. By the next day I had laughed for the first time in months. This post almost made me cry because I was the exact same and will never forget getting it out. I truly believe if they wouldn't have got it out that day that my life was in jeopardy.
I had the coil one in my arm and I felt dead inside after a while and A-sexual even. But it went away after a while of having it out. The last birth control I used was the copper IUD which is the non hormonal one, I highly recommend
As someone who’s had a IUD for 6 years everything you said is so true 💯

I’m happy for you. Birth control is a double edge sword. It’s not good for us.
@Jade i feel every bit of this. I never would have done it but my mind did think id br better off. I couldn't even enjoy time with my kids. Yesterday I was dancing in the kitchen with them. It's such a relief to know im not the only one. I'm sure there are others. I just wanted to get it out there, save another momma the trouble!
Yet every potential male birth control medication has been squashed because it makes the widdle boys sad 🙁🙄 being biologically female is the biggest scam out there. Glad you got it out, and thank you for the heads up. I've had awful mental health reactions to oral contraceptives so I've always steered clear of anything that needed to be installed and removed by someone else.
@Amanda girl i just feel every bit of your comment haha. It's a joke how women are treated in healthcare, especially when it comes to pregnancy, labor and post partum. If a man had those feelings, they would find a cure for it tomorrow! And I sooo wanted to get it out there because I was SO underinformed!! For my OB to walk in the room and basically tell me that this has been a side effect for other women, but I was never advised so I spent a year letting psych doctors play with my medicines and it's been a horrible roller coaster that NO ONE should have to ride. Even if it's common knowledge to others then this can serve as a reminder.
@Amanda it's important to note that everyone reacts differently and there is a huge difference between the hormonal IUD and other forms of birth control. I would say if you're sensitive to hormones, that would be the best bet vs the pill, patch, or depo
I had a horrible experience with mirena. It caused intense anxiety and panic attacks. I felt so detached and always on edge. Plus, my bp was staying high. I finally had it removed and the panic attacks and anxiety disappeared over the next few days. My bp even went back to normal. Many Dr's do not talk about the possible side effects that the iud can have on mental health for some people. It's good that your Dr knew about that.
