Until he's one years old, solid food is just for tasting and exploring. He can still get all of his nutrients from the milk so I wouldn't try and reduce his milk intake at this stage. Just let him explore the textures and flavours and have fun with it! I'm just trying to introduce my six month old to as many bitter flavours as I can if I'm in the house but not bothering if I'm out and about. I do one session per day - don't put too much pressure on yourself. Baby led basically just means they try and hold the food themselves like sticks of well boiled broccoli or sweet potato. You have to be able to squish it in between your fingers easily to minimize choking. I'm doing a mixture of purees and sticks of food just whatever we have in the fridge at the time. Just make sure to only give him one thing at a time like not mixing anything together. Once my daughter had potato, I added some cows milk into her next lot of potato to test for that allergy. Feel free to drop me a message to chat it through ☺️
@Sophie if you are only introducing one food at a time to rule out allergies it needs to be done as the only food introduced for 3 consecutive days not just one. (Allergies are actually more likely to happen with frequent exposure not a one off) In babies without allergies you don’t have to introduce foods on their own only common allergens (oats, eggs etc) babies with allergies it’s advised to introduce each food (allergen or not) individually for 3 days
Yeah I'm just introducing milk and eggs the three consecutive days, I'm not as concerned about vegetables. Should I be doing the same with the veggies? Thanks!
Highly recommend baby led weaning app
@Jenni what’s it called please?
Thank you everyone so far
Jumping on this Jodie 😂
@Laura I’m getting info for us both 😂
Hey :) I do traditional weaning so I’ll either use ah Ella’s kitchen pouch with melty sticks to help him have a finger food .. to start with I just gave him a few spoonfuls an hour or so before his bottle once a day .. then gradually gave him more spoonfuls .. then introduced a second time for weaning (breakfast and dinner) and kept all his bottles the same. Now he’s 8 months and he’s on 4 x 210ml bottles a day .. and 3 meals a day which are around 6-10 spoonfuls each xx
@Sophie if baby doesn’t have any allergies then no it’s not necessary. with my daughter we didn’t even do allergens alone let alone stick to the 3 day rule but one of my twins has cmpa so taking it slower this time . If you do notice that baby has any signs of a reaction just note what they have had and introduce those alone again. @Jodie honestly just follow baby’s lead. They are actually really smart in knowing their own bodies. They will let you know when they want more and when they’re done. It’s also a really good way to introduce some basic baby signing like milk and more. My daughter could sign from just after weaning for milk more and no which helped in the weaning too
I didn’t follow every single vegetable… wasn’t buying a whole aubergine 🤣
@Ceri-Ann I have baby signing booked starting next week!
What book is that @Jenni

I also use the solid starts app alongside this weaning chart to make sure I’m giving my LO a variety of food from different food groups https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1883715605/?ref=share_ios_native_control
Most of their nutrients will still be coming from milk for a while yet. It is important to expose them to tastes and textures now, but they will likely not swallow very much of it. They should naturally start to drink less milk as they start to eat more food, it's a gradual process and it's a little way off yet so try not to worry about that now. Continue to offer the same amount of milk, and offer food about an hour after, so they're not too hungry and not too full.
