Cracked nipple

Almost a week ago I had cracked nipples from breastfeeding that were extremely painful. I know baby has a bad latch and so feeding on it will only make it worse so I’ve not fed on it since. The pain has now gone but the nipple has a white film over it. I assumed this was the skin over it healing but now I’m worried it might be something else? How do I know it’s safe to feed on and the crack is healed?

I had a cracked sore nipple from a bad latch. I was recommended to keep feeding on it and fix the latch. You need to keep it up for the supply and also so baby doesn’t grow a preference. And then I used breastmilk and twice a day I put organic coconut on my nipples and it healed it so quickly! Coconut is anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and anti-fungal so it’s great! Also, have it checked just in case you need an ointment prescribed.

@Samantha-Jo I’m pumping and feeding a bit off the good one (which has only just healed itself so I’m being wary). I couldn’t feed on the bad one anymore as it was agony and I’m worried feeding again on it too early will cause more damage and set me back? They think my son has slight tongue tie which is being assessed in 2 weeks. When you had cracked nipples would a film of white skin go over them when healing?? I’m just not sure what that is? I’m putting off feeding on it in case it rips the skin off and sets back the healing

Mine looked and was more like a scab. That would keep “breaking” when baby would feed. I was told to not feed on it as much and take breaks from it when needed but to try every now and then when I could.

@Samantha-Jo Hmm I haven’t had a scab but its been a week so I feel like it must be healed by now or at least almost there. I think I’ll brave it tomorrow 😬
