Nighttime discomfort

My baby is 7 months old and has developed eczema over her face, neck and tummy over the last month. We have seen a paediatrician this week who has referred us to allergist as we think it has been triggered by something. We have an appointment in just over a week’s time. In the meantime, my daughter and I are getting no sleep. She is so itchy and waking every 20 mins - 1.5 hours (if we are lucky) to scratch and rub her eyes. I am co sleeping with her so that I can try and stop her from scratching in her sleep, but the only way I can seem to settle her once she’s woken is through nursing - so I am breastfeeding her 8+ times a night. They are short feeds, and lots of flutter sucking so I am sure it is mostly for comfort. She would normally suck her thumb but is wearing mittens for the scratching so can’t now. I do not want to let her cry it out, especially considering she is upset and in pain. I have tried E45, epimax, aquaphora and calamine lotion, steroid cream, antibiotic cream and antihistamines (all prescribed). She has a cool bath before bed and sleeps in mittens. We use air con to keep the room cool. Does anyone have any recommendations for anything else I can do to ease her discomfort and help us both sleep? 🙏🏼 Additionally, as I am breastfeeding, do I need to cut out foods that she might be allergic to as well. I understand with dairy, but does that stretch to legumes for example?

Same here and went through all the option mentioned. -We use hydrocortisone lotion 2.5% and it helped a lot, it’s more spreadable and we just layer it with Vanicream lotion afterward. -since you are co-sleeping, maybe see if you can swaddle her to keep her hand from scratching her face. -instead of feeding, I use pacifier and gently pat and massage around his body and help to easy the itchiness. Stay strong, and would love to hear if anything worked for your end too.

You could look at introducing a dummy! I have cut out most things breastfeeding, and through weaning have found out my boy has had reactions to dairy, egg and oats. I hope you find some relief soon, it’s so much trial and error to find what works for you which seems so unfair when they’re so little, but I promise there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you both. It just feels so random at the moment but I am hoping we will get a skin prick test in a week or so and maybe get some answers there. She seems to have flared up with lentils this week - so I am wondering about legume allergy. I tried a dummy with her when she was a few weeks old but she didn’t take to it. I might try again tonight and see if it works.
