Wake window

Talking to a sleep consultant last night and she said my son's sleep is 💩 because his wake window is to long. So he was great self settled up once back to sleep no problem. Then he got ill so had to be on with us now having to get him back to sleeping in his bed without us and going to bed to settle is a struggle right now. She said he should have a 5.5 wake window he currently has 7 weeks did 6 6.5 and he was waking an hour after bed he wasn't tired enough. Now I'm curious is it to big. But her wake window would mean he would be going to bed around 5.30. What's everyone else schedule like?

My little girl has slept through since 8 months old, we’ve adjusted the wake windows as she gets older but currently she’s been waking up at 7am, goes for a nap 11am-12:30 and then goes to bed at 6:30pm and is so tired, she is out like a light. If I try and put her for a nap at 1-2pm like some of my friends she struggles to sleep and then by 6:30pm she isn’t tired. Sometimes sleep consultants suggest things but every baby is different, you just have to play around with the timings I’ve found xx

I follow my little one, some days she has a nap, some days she doesn't. She goes to bed about 6pm on the days she doesn't have a nap and 7pm on the days she does. She falls asleep in her bed with either me or her dad holding her hand. She usually sleeps through. If she wakes, she sometimes settles herself, sometimes needs us to hold her hand again. I guess what I'm saying is, we don't follow wake windows etc because so many things can influence stuff, so we just go with the flow and follow what she is telling us.

I wouldn't put much stock in wake windows at this age at all. Some kids stop napping entirely at this point, and I know some people whose kids still can't make it past 4 hours in the morning without being a mess. My little one is awake for about 5.5-6hrs in the morning and then 6.5-7 hours in the afternoon/evening. She won't sleep before 6.5 hours for sure. She sleeps through the night 3-5 nights a week and wakes up once the other nights, usually due to teeth or developmental reasons like her language exploding. When she wakes, we go and lay with her and she goes right back to sleep and we just stay there that night, as she has a double floor bed and everyone gets the most sleep this way.

Lo is up about 6, nap at 11/12 anything from 20 mins to 2 hours. Then bed at 7. Didn't change the times when the clock changed. Although she woke at 7 this morning as she woke in the night.

Some babies just have lower sleep needs. Follow babies' needs, sleep consultants go by what they learn not by every baby they "work with" he's almost 2, they'll drop naps all together 85% of the time! My child gets up between 5-7am dependant on certain things, but she goes to bed at 6pm when she hasn't had a nap, if she does have a nap it will be 630-7pm, she only naps on nursery days usually which is twice a week! However long she naps for is how much later passed 6pm she stays up for so it levels out. Although last night she was so hyper, she didn't sleep until 730! Which is really late for her! Formrefetence she's 2.5

@Ellis in going to try the 6 hour wake window the night because he's reduced his nap time to an hour x

@Gemma if he shows he's tired he goes to bed earlier but he's in a new bed so it's all exciting and he's on and out until he's ready to sleep but I had to stroke he his head last night for his n to big to sleep but it's better than been in his bed x

@Mikaela see we co slept when he was poorly and he doesn't stay still he keeps cks in his sleep the lot so no sleep at all. Im struggling getting I m back to his normal sleep since been poorly x

@Emma I never changed anything with the clock change mainly because I forgot about them lol x

@Suzanne he has an hour nap. The hard thing is he didn't show much sleepy ques sometimes he will sit and I think your tired then it's a book and bed but sometimes he has so much energy he didn't seem tired. I'm going to try pop him m to bed a bit earlier tonight hope it helps get back on track x

A sleep consultant who completely disregards the reason sleep changed before and spouts crqp about wake windows (at this age) is probably money better spent somewhere else xxx Eta my twins both go to bed between 7:45/8 and one always wakes up first around 6:15/6:45, the other between 6:45/7:15. Both nap somewhere between 12-2 for 2 hours max but usually 1.5 hours.

@Mou that's the thing I never paid she just gave me advice and started saying all this. I said he can't sleep with a 5.5 wake window at all. I'm going to try do bed time a bit earlier as he had dropped his nap time but he also has a new bed so that's a big change for him x

My girl settles herself to sleep and sleeps through 90% of the time and has done from about 9 months. This is our current schedule… 7:30 - Wake Up 1:30 - Nap (can do 1pm), 2 hours 3:30 - Up (or 3pm) 7:00-7:30 - Bed Time If for any reason she doesn’t nap or has a short nap (sometimes happens at the childminder), we do an early bedtime by 6:30. She will then wake the same time as usual. I think because her wake window is quite long at the start, the second one can be shorter without issues as she’s still built up tiredness throughout the day. She is very busy too and go go go so gets worn out/tired.

My LG will wake really early from overtiredness if she has a wake window that’s longer than 5 hours before bed. The only way I get round this (as she has a low sleep need) is to extend the first wake window to 6 hours or so. She will then generally nap for 1 hour 30.

Mine is up at 6:30/7, naps at 12:30/1 for 1.5-2 hours. Then bed at 7:30/8pm
