I planned one but sadly needed a C-section as little one was not moving and was 16 days over due 😅 But I told my midwives I wanted one at one of my appointments, then maybe around 35 weeks they came to my house , checked we had enough space and it was suitable. I didn’t want a pool birth but if you do, you can hire one (my friend did). The midwives said they would bring all the equipment and gas and air but that’s the strongest pain killer you can have e.g not an epidural at home. The only reasons why you would need to go to hospital once in labour is complication for you or baby or really bad tears after birth. They can stitch up smaller ones at home. That’s what I got told anyway. They also said if there wasn’t any midwife’s available when I went into labour they may advise me go to hospital. But I loved the idea of a home birth! Xx
I planned a home birth. You can hire a birthing pool if you want one, but you don't have to. The only thing that would make you home not suitable for a homebirth would be if you don't have running water or access for emergency services. Home births have happened on canal boats, so space is not an issue. I laboured at home but had to be blue lighted because babys heart rate was high. This didn't concern me because it had been all through pregnancy, but i could see the midwife wasn't comfortable and she was the head of home birth so I went in. Happy to answer any questions you have. My pregnancy also became 'high risk ' in the last few weeks
@Larissa thank you, I was wondering if space would be a issue, but my house wouldn’t be considered small I just was planning on maybe birthing upstairs due to the bathroom being up there and comfortablity etc x
That would be absolutely fine! I hired a pool and had everything set up in my lounge. Yet spent the whole time upstairs in the dark. Midwife had no issues with me being upstairs when she arrived
Planning a home birth this time xx
I had an unplanned home birth. I didn't realise that I was in labour and felt like I needed to go to the toilet and that's when I realised that the baby was coming. It was too late to go to the hospital at this point and my mum delivered the baby which was a very special moment. My contractions felt like period pains so that's why I didn't realise that I was in labour. My baby came 2 days before his due date so just bear that in mind that your baby can come at any minute. I did end up staying in hospital for a few days for being anaemic so make sure your iron levels are good.
I had a homebirth 7 weeks ago and it was amazing! I would deffo get clued up and do some birth prep, learn how to advocate for yourself-when I rang they told me the HB service wasn’t running , but I pushed back, advocated and they did indeed end up sending out two midwives who were amazing! I lost abit more blood this time (also did last time but again, stuck up for what I wanted!) so they recommended for me to go into hospital after, but I declined this and stayed on my sofa soaking up all the snugs! It was honestly the most amazing experience if you’ve any Qs feel free to pop me a message! Xx
Yes ! I did one with just me and my partner and it was amazing, didn't attend the hospital although if you do t have a midwife it can be a faff registering but it all worked out and worth it. Really helpful if you have a bath, a load of towels/sheets/puppy pads and something to cut the cord with. Hope it goes well 💜
I wanted to have a home birth sadly our housing suitation it is not possible . I think you may need to hire a birthing pool . Maybe ask your midwife they can give information
