Dummy

Hello, I was wondering when it’s ok to introduce a dummy? I’ve been told it’s good for breastfeeding babies to reduce SIDs but not to do it until milk is established?

Yes, NHS says 6 weeks I believe. I gave mine a dummy in the first week though, it didn't affect our breastfeeding journey and more often than not she'd rather have her hands in her mouth than the dummy x

Midwives and health visitor always told me 6 weeks, by the time I tried introducing a bottle and dummy to her at that point she refused. She’s 2 next month and has never had a bottle or dummy 🙃 Some of my friends introduced them so much earlier on and their babies took to them fine and never had issues with breastfeeding etc It’s all down to what you want to do, do what you feel is right🫶🏽xx

We introduced a dummy on day one and my nipples are already killing me. She refused it by 6 months and hasn't had one since (now 11 months). It never effected my supply and we limited the dummy use to when the boob wouldn't soothe and when she was restless but trying to sleep. My nipples benefited from it

I think it all depends on the baby. Both my kids have had pacifiers from day one and it never interfered with breastfeeding.
