Swaddling

A night nanny I interviewed said that she has the babies stop swaddling around 10 weeks and transition to an arms out sack so they can help regulate their movements and sleep longer. From what I see, for safety, we take their arms out once they show signs of rolling, but my 10 week old isn’t showing any signs yet. From a sleep longevity standpoint, has anyone stopped swaddling? And how old? What is sleep like?

So I tried the swaddles but my little man was a wiggle butt. And I read the same about regulating their movement and the startle reaction being good for brain development. I’ve been using these https://a.co/d/fH5yT8k since 1month old. He’s now 3months almost 4, sleeps almost through the night, still no rolling unless it’s tummy time. (He was 6weeks early, little slow on the milestones) but it’s not exactly arms out per se, but still safe. And they can wiggle around.

@Alexis good to know! I have the love to dream swaddle which is similar in effect. I haven’t tried it as much recently though and not at all at night. Maybe I should try it at night as a first step in the transition

My first would not sleep without a swaddle and preferred swaddling until he was 7 months old and then we had to quit because we couldn't find a swaddle big enough. My second wouldn't sleep if she was swaddled after about 3 months so we switched to sleep sacks and she was much happier. My third is 7 weeks and refuses the swaddle during the day but loves it at night. I think it varies wildly from baby to baby

@Waiverly I love this. You’re right. It’s all about what works for your own little one.

We were forced to transition because baby was rolling at 11 weeks. He showed signs earlier but I didn't know to start transition before. We just cut the swaddle cold turkey and still trying what's best. He seems to like sleep sacks. We have the equivalent to kyte but cheaper on amazon. Baby was sleeping through the night prior and still is. We've been struggling with giving back the paci all night long but that didn't change with the transition. He spits it out and gets upset until it's reinserted. That hasn't changed 😂 A lot of people recommended zippiedee or something like that. Next step if sleep sacks don't work. Our little one was a BIG lover of his swaddle so I was nervous but it hasn't been too bad.

@Kay HOW did you get him to sleep through the night at 11 weeks! What’s your secret lol

@Holly haha none! He just did it himself. He is sooooo active I think he just exhausts himself every day. Also making sure he has full feeds every day. He likes 28oz so I make sure we hit that during the day. Also we have a consistent bed time routine. Honestly I think some babies are good sleepers and some aren't. He got up every 3 hours on the dot for weeks and then dropped to 2 feeds and then he just slept through the night once and it continued. No secrets 😂 It just happened and I think we got lucky. I have to replace the paci a lot though so I'm not sleeping well.
