I feel like she just wants it fast!
And it takes time coming out so she gets annoyed!
Cold milk from bottle rather than warming it up. Don't feed her bottle lying down. More upright is slower
You can hand express a little to help make letdown faster too.
You could get the premie nipples for the bottle too
@Kassidi wouldn't recommend. We took that advice with our eldest and he developed a feeding aversion and would scream and scream and scream and not eat.
@Miriam interesting! I never heard of that happening due to the nipple flow
So upon further research, it suggests gradually going to a slower flow. So try getting the next smallest size nipple from your current one. Just a suggestion, but you do want to make the bottle more work. Pace feeding like Miriam suggested is also a good idea if you’re not already doing so
@Amber I don’t really have an answer but we went through this around 10 weeks and after about 5 days he went back to being happy breastfeeding. But the pumping to keep up with the aversion during that time was rough. Couple of things I tried: Feeding with bottle and switching to beast mid-feed Feeding cold milk from the fridge instead of warming Using a hand pump to start flow before baby latched Some days those things worked and some days they didn’t. But it did pass eventually 🙌
@Kassidi I’m using lansinoh nipples and size s is the smallest
@Catherine thank you! C
I’d look up “paced bottle feeding.” She probably got used to the fast flow from the bottle and became “lazy” on the breast, that is why they recommend the paced feeding. Don’t give up breastfeeding! Keep trying, be patient, hand express prior so the letdown comes quicker. You can do this!
(please note, "paced feeding" is only for newborns according to the lactation nurse and SLP we've seen for reflux and latching issues and not appropriate for older babies)
@Miriam thanks! I am always curious as to where information comes from. I like to research myself and then make informed decisions. Here are some links I found: • Https://www.texashealth.org/baby-care/Infancy/paced-bottle-feeding#:~:text=Paced%20bottle%20feeding20%should%20continue,happen%20sometime%20before%20age%201. - ..”Paced bottle feeding should continue until your baby can control his or her own milk intake, something that will happen at different times for different babies” • Https://ohioaap.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/PMP_PacedBottleFeeding.pdf

@Giuliana thank you! My milk supply has also decreased due to this! Do you have any recommendations on how to increase it again? I feel so sad
@Catherine thank you.
@Amber more milk removal is always best! Aim for 8-10 per day to increase your supply. There's a really nice infographic out there that says how much to pump based on how much you pump now to increase/maintain/decrease. Also hydration and protein shakes, oatmeal etc will help. But without pumping telling your body to produce more the other things like supplements will only do so much. Add in one power pump season a day for a week for an extra boost. (I struggled with milk supply with my first from latching issues and managed to get things where they needed to be with this baby so happy to talk about what worked and what didn't. But please note some people respond differently to different things!)
@Amber there are so many factors that can cause your supply to drop. I’d definitely talk to your doctor about it. Some things that I’d also check is if you’re eating enough and staying hydrated. I can tell you from personal experience that stimulation helped me, so I pumped regularly. Again, my experience. Hope it helps!
@Giuliana thank you!
@Miriam thank you! Any good pumps you know of? X
@Amber I have the Medela symphony but you need a prescription as it's hospital grade. Baby Buddha is working well for me too. Your insurance may cover a pump so I would check what they'll cover and maybe see which one works best out of those.
do you think it’s a milk production issue or something else?
