KIT Day

Hi! Hoping for some advice! I have a KIT day at work in 2 weeks, LG will be at home with dad and will have bottles from milk supply in fridge/ freezer. She is normally BF during the day so first time leaving her and pumping. Firstly - I am assuming I pump every 3 hours to maintain supply, her regular feeding pattern, will be 17 weeks old. Secondly - as I will then pump about 2/3 times in the day. Do I need to do a full clean of my pumps and sterilise after each pump, are there some wipes or something which can be used? Thanks in advance :)

I use dapple pump wipes or thr fridge hack with my pumps at work. Basically as.milk.is ok for 24 hours I fridge the.pumps immediately after each pump and then reuse them later in the day If there's a reason I want to clean them I use the pump wipes. You don't have to sterilise but I often feel comfier doing that. I also sometimes use steriliser bags

I sterilise after every use. I use microwave sterlaising bags which they live in till they need to be used and I have multiple cups. A lot of people stetlaise once a day and then do the fridge method but I work in a hospital and I'm like nah! I'm good! I'd mimic what baby does so yes every 2 to 3 hours. You'll get about 4 to 5 oz most likely. Any mores great but less may happen as pumps aren't usually as efficient as a baby.

@Helen absolutely if i was in a hospital I would sterilise all the time! My workplace is often very clean and if I've been doing something less sanitary I will often filly clean and sterilise. I literally only use fridge hack it i can guarantee cleanliness

I exclusively pump and do the fridge method use my pumps for 12 hours then wash and sterilise never had an issue. I’d literally never be with my baby if I was washing pumps, sterilising and drying after each time. I pump every 4 hours, 18 weeks pp. I would say if you haven’t used the pumps before to start using them now as it takes up to two weeks for you to get used to them x

@Louise thank you :)

@Helen I am in an office so not a terribly unhygienic or huge risk of infection. Thank you for the advice! :)

@Molly thank you! I pump once a day at the moment so used to use them :) I thought about moving to exclusively pumping but the idea of washing them all the time like when I was in the hospital seemed like far to much hard work 🤣 x

Fridge hack all the way, Milton wipes on the flanges if need be. Follow baby’s normal feeding schedule as closely as you can. I go back to work myself in 5 weeks and will also be pumping every 3 hours, I will be storing my pumps in a lockable freezer bag in the work fridge to make double sure it’s stored nicely
