Block feeding??

Anyone tried block feeding? I’m miserable, I have such an over supply from pumping. I’m trying to aim towards exclusive breastfeeding but my baby was not able to latch at the beginning, she’s now 6 weeks old and nursing so much better, I was pumping on one side and feeding on the other and then switching at the next feed. Now that I am block feeding, I have such an over supply that she is choking and crying at the breast almost every feed, except at night. I’m trying block feeding but my boobs hurt and she doesn’t feed as well because my milk is coming out like a fire hose (literally spraying milk halfway across the room). I’m leaking milk everywhere, my bras are soaked, I am so overstimulated and end up crying during every feeding during the day. She ends up having to just take a bottle because she won’t (can’t?) nurse. I’m only been trying it for 2 days but I’m struggling 😭Any advice or support?

If your let down is super strong you could gently massage the breast before feeding (you can catch any milk if you want) and once that initial let down has come then settle baby on the breast. Give yourself a few days for your body to adjust, it makes today what you used yesterday so pumping and exclusive eeding will definitely leave you engorged/with an over supply. Is there a reason you're doing both? Maybe pump left on one feed, no pump on the next, pump right on the next, no pump on the next etc. If you don't need the excess I'd just cut the pumping sessions to once in the morning and once in the evening ❤️

I’m going through the exact same thing, but it’s been a week now and every day she’s latching on longer and longer. My LC told me to try to decrease my supply by pumping for less time, don’t empty the breast completely and I’m pumping every 4 hours instead of 2-3 hours. LC also said to try latching at least 8 times a day even if it’s only for a little bit. Don’t get discouraged, keep trying and it’ll get better ❤️

My LC said to pump off that first letdown and to not fully empty your breast if you do pump the other side due to discomfort

@Alana I will definitely try that position, we do side lying during the night and she does so much better. During the day i try side lying and laid back and it only sometimes works. Thank you!

@Cherith I’ve tried hand expressing at the beginning, maybe until my supply slows down I still need to pump a little bit.

I let her latch and once the let down starts I remove her, put a burp cloth and wait until til the letdown is completely done and it stopped spraying. Then you can also easily do a bit of hand express. I prefer this to pumping off the let down. Also like Alana said, any upright position helps. I also like standing and holding her upright. Good luck! It took 3-4 months with my first to regulate, give it time

@Alana gonna try this but my oversupply is also like a fire hose and my bub will chug until he’s spitting up.
