Sertraline

For those that take Sertraline, at what dose did you found it helped best? I don’t mind the emotionally numbing part as I have no partner, lack of libido etc. to be honest this is a bonus for me. And can be happy (at times it’s a show) for my LO. I’m not emotionless with her. I’m wondering if I should up my dose though as the depression is still there and although i know it’s situational of having ADD (which I loathe myself for my traits of that a lot of time). But loneliness is still prevalent. I struggle to leave the house unless I really have to for LO or to walk dogs. Like I mention, my depression is situational as I have no extended family and have had to cut my not very involved toxic mother out. And I don’t want to feel anything in regards to that. In regards to loneliness. In regards to an old flame I reconnected with who said he cared for me but is otherside of world (working and family commitments to his parents). He was amazing when he was around visiting, but sadly when he’s not he ‘forgets to celebrate or wish happy valentines or happy birthday’ but yet wanted to be in daily contact. Not a nasty guy but that connection was also hurting my inner core. So I’ve cut contact on that too. I know I can work on the loneliness etc. I just want to feel less sad and like I want to stay at home which the sertraline hasn’t alleviated as much as I’d hoped 😔

I would definitely recommend going to your GP, and if your LO is under 12 months, request a referral to the perinatal team. It can be dangerous to change your dose without medical oversight. Often increasing doses can temporarily increase suicidal thoughts. It may be that sertraline isn't the right anti-depressant for you. I had similar with citalopram and eventually changed to sertraline but that transition was horrendous, and I required a lot of monitoring to make sure I was ok. You could also ask the GP about whether there's medication to support your ADD? There can be overlap between unmanaged ADD and depression. I work in mental health services, so we see this a lot. Hope that helps

I took sertraline but only a low dose. It depends on the person for the dose they need. I would point out that sertraline is not a cure. I took this in conjunction with counselling which helped. There is no quick fix for depression or anxiety, it is something that needs to be worked on. I found that sertraline helped me focus on helping me to fix myself with the help of counselling.

@Laura I’ve been taking elvanse for my ADD for about ten years so it’s not a new diagnosis nor med. Was okayed to add sertraline to the mix when mentioned how low I was getting by GP. Will try to speak to them about maybe changing which SSRI might work better for me..
