Vera

(Sorry long birth story) Vera was born April 18th at 6:26pm weighing 6lbs 13oz and 20 inches long at 38weeks and 3 days. I woke up that morning at 4:30am thinking I either peed myself or I had a lot of watery discharge. I soaked through a pad but it was nothing like how people describe a water breaking so I just kept track of it. I called at 630 while getting ready for work but the office didn’t open till 8. Got ready went to work just fine to get a call at 8 saying they would like me to get tested to see if it was my water. Got there and sure enough it was. I was in the hospital bed by 830am starting pitocin since I wasn’t having strong contractions that were anywhere close together. By 11 they really picked up and I decided to get an epidural since I was still only at 2cm. After the epidural I was put into different positions feeling so much better. They checked me hours later and I jumped to 6cm. Then only an hour after them telling me I’m 6cm I started feeling contractions again they thought my epidural failed. She checked me and it was time to push already. Baby girl was born after 12 pushes healthy as ever! I did get a 2nd degree tear but I am recovering well and soaking up all the baby snuggles 🥰

2nd degree tear? Never heard of a tear being called that. But congrats!! Baby is beautiful!!

@Stephanie I’m not sure just overhearing they called it a “2nd degree” every time the nurses swapped and said it was repaired. I was too scared to ask clarification 😂 that and I was just more interested in my baby. Also my mom went to see the baby at the warmer while my doctor was doing something down there so she doesn’t know either.

Makes sense!! Haha

@Stephanie it's actually very common to classify tears by degrees. may also be called 'grade' instead if that's what you've heard? https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/labor-and-delivery/in-depth/vaginal-tears/art-20546855

Like burns, it refers to severity and how deep into the layers of skin. Mine was only first degree this time, I assume same in the past since I healed easily. I'm not brave enough to get a mirror and look, I've heard that it's a bad idea 😆 Sounds like how my birth started with my first except no one was reacting nearly that urgently and I wasn't even admitted for at least 6 hrs because they were convinced it wasn't actually my water breaking.

@Michelle I’m not sure all I heard was “2nd degree” when they were swapping nurses to tell them about how to best care for me and baby

@Jasmine sorry, I was responding to the woman who hadn't heard of them using the term 'degree' and giving her some info. I'm glad you're recovering well!
