How to pump to increase supply
I would like a small-moderate increase in my milk supply, it was recommended by my doctor to pump.
What’s the best way to do this, in terms of schedule? What time of day, how often, and how long after a breastfeeding session?
I exclusively breastfeed on demand.
I just fed baby on one breast, pumped after and got a bit less than an ounce from the breast she fed on. She didn’t want the other breast, so I pumped and got about 2 ounces.
I am currently in the process of trying to do this myself. My doctor hasnt suggested the increase but my guy went from 39th to 27th percentile (he’s not gaining at a super fast rate) and the type A in me hates it… From the research I’ve done you have to pump every time after feeding and throw some power hours in (20 mins on, 10 off, 10 on, 10 off, 10 on). It can take a few days to a few weeks allegedly 🤷🏻♀️ and even if you don’t produce a lot during the pump the key is to keep doing it consistently -you have to trick your body thinking to think that the baby is demanding more so it will produce more. my mom suggested BF only and constantly with the pumping included (2-3h max hours in between) but it’s been hard to keep up with. Also heard hydration needs to be up to. Get yourself some coconut water and liquid IV if you didn’t use already. And it’s suggested skin to skin as that triggers hormones. Good luck! This whole breastfeeding thing is not for the weak!
