Induction threats

I’m 38 weeks pregnant and all I keep hearing from the midwives & doctors is how they’ll induce me as soon as I go over 41 weeks. Also because this is my first baby I’ve been told that it’s likely for me to go over 40 weeks. I want my baby to come out naturally when it’s ready but now I understand why a lot of women do everything to induce themselves before 41 weeks. I just feel like it’s the fear mongering that the professionals are doing. I dont know if I should start doing things to induce myself or just let everything be as it is. The whole situation is stressing me out.

I was in your position, and was eventually induced at 41+1. I had a really positive experience overall. It’s very worth understanding the why and how of inductions, in case you *choose* to have one (and also so that your decisions are informed). I was like you and wanted to go into labour naturally, but I personally felt the induction was right for me when I eventually had it. The medical professionals can only advise you - but it’s you that makes the final decision, so don’t allow yourself to feel pressured by them in any way. You can ask for increased monitoring instead of the induction, and you can even ask for the induction much later on if that’s your preference. Trust your instincts on this. Good luck 🤞
